929 idle adjustment problems

does anyone else have problems adjusting the idle? the cable is really short so it's way up under the frame and hard to turn. is there another longer cable you can use to make it stick out further? maybe one from a 900rr or older 600? those things have long idle cables.

just curious what you all do because i have to climb off my bike and reach all up under the frame to adjust the idle and it takes way too long. my friend's f2 is so easy to adjust on the fly.

Yo, wuz up kid . to solve some of your problem take the tank of and spray some WD-40 in the line and it will turn like butter.Haven't figured out how to make it longer yet , but that makes a world of difference.

I got a question about the idle on the 929, you guys might can help me out since I'm not real familiar with this bike yet. For instance, when I crank the idle up to, lets say 4500, in neutral, once I shift to first it goes back down to like 2000. It'll go back up to 4500 once I pull the clutch in and give a little gas. I just want to know if this is normal on this bike, cause my R1 doesnt do this at all.

Binder, not tryin to sh** on your thread here bro, just thought I would throw this question in.

Later,

-Matt

the rpm's actually stay down until I give it a little gas, then it'll jump back up and stay, maybe its just a Honda thang

hey man, good question. it's a 929 thing for some reason tehy do it.

when you adjust hte idle, you have to adjust a little, then blip the throttle then readjust because it's weird.

then when you let the clutch out it will go down, but if you blip the throttle while holding the clutch, it goes back up. that's normal, does it on my bike too.

and how are you doing with stuntin man? you still kicking *** like you did in wisconsin?

I guess I'll just have to adapt to it.....I mean other than that, I love the bike.

Hell yeah Binder, I'm constantly tryin to improve the skills no matter how frustrated I get sometimes, but still havin a blast doin it. From what I've read in the past month or so, it sounds like your steppin it up yourself since wisconsin....Keep rockin it bro

Are you not making it to Dallas this weekend?

Just stunted mine for the 1st time..same **** 1 day and it is pissin me off. Mine will idle at 3000 then jump to 5000 after 10 sec..when I let the clutch out a bit, it will drop to 3000 then up again in 10 sec. Between 2500 and 3000 it does whet you say. Below 2500 it is fine. I like it at 3-3500 for no handers and circles. Possible go even bigger gearing??? 1dn 9 up now..might try like 17 up.

what you're describing sounds like its the exhaust valve opening and closing

yeah, its the exhaust valve. buy a full system. on these shitboxes its more important than a steering damper.

Do you mean fix it so it stays open, or closed?

That idle thing bothers me too. I thought it was the fuel injection that was causing it. I just gave up and got my throttle control good enough so that I could do slow wheelies without raising the idle. But I want to try circles and NTH wheelies eventually.

that's odd because everyone i know keeps the stock headers. on my other 929 i put a full system and it lost low end torque and the throttle is choppier. i have no problems with it at all...i just blip the throttle while i'm raising hte idle so i know where it's at until i'm at 4500...if it drops when i let the clutch out, who cares, it goes right back up when i start wheelying.

i just want a longer adjustment cable

thats fine if you keep the idle at 4500 because the valve is already open.. thats very high though. I believe the valve opens at just about 2500 and thats where most people want there idles

valve opens at 3grand and then again at 7 grand...i rode mine when i took off my full akrapovic (lost all the low end also) and i had the cables backwards and it wouldn't come up in firstgear under throttle and i'm -1 down.....so i don't see how turning the valve around ( if you are talking about what i did) will work...i swapped the cables and this baby wheelies now...LOL
