Question Should I get a crf150 or quad?

I've been riding a long time, but I really suck at wheelies. I want something where I can learn the feel of a balance point at slow speeds to limit the risk of injuries, and something that will stand up to damage.

Looking through forums, I see two schools of thought: one is to learn on a quad - you'll get bp and rear braking without worrying about looping or side balance. The other is to start on a small bike,

My brother has a crf50, and I can't wheelie it at all. It's way too small. The smallest I could possibly use if the 150.

So what do you guys think? Go for a 300 or 400ex or the crf150? Thanks for any advice.

Get the crf150, it'll be much closer to your streetbike in feel (well closer than a quad). You should be able to wheelie that 50 tho.

CRF for sure! Way more fun and you'll learn a ton more than using a quad

One issue I have with the 50 is the huge throttle lag (the centri clutch doesn't help). Maybe it's just my brother's bike. I should clean and adjust the carbs to see if that helps. But every 50 I've ridden (about 5) will die if you go WOT from a closed throttle. But even if the throttle were perfect, the bike just feels too small. Riding the 50 back to back with even a kx125, they feel nothing alike. At least on the kx, I can ride a wheelie a little bit.

And even the regular crf150 (non-R version) is actually a really good wheelie machine. A long while back, a friend of mine owned one, and could wheeile around the block with it.
