cant decide..

I have an 04 f4i which has the bananna seat. I just want some opinions on whether to do the split seat conversion or not. It doesnt look horrible the way it is (check my pics) but dont know if i should waste my money on that or buy somthing like.. a rear handbrake master, although i can rock the junction valve

Thanks in advance

Re: cant decide..

yea i think thats it but i agree it might not be worth it go get a seat cover that flows with your sceem so it looks like a split seat till you get up on it

Re: cant decide..

I don't know if this will work because I haven't seen under the f4i's seats but...what if you buy a sick innovations tail saver/seat stander plate and cut a skinny section out of your OEM seat where the seat split would have been, and put the SI tail saver in that spot. Wouldn't be completely split but more of a multi tiered seat. Then cut a foot hole in the passenger section and it might just look sick. Again I don't actually know if it would work but it sounds cool.

You know i thought about that at one point in time.. just didnt think about puttin a foot plate in there. That is a pretty damn good idea. The only thing is... is it gonna look "custom" or "ghetto" who knows.

So i might cut the seat, put a si plate in there and maybe touch up any missing areas with some painted aluminum or diamond plate.

Idea = ghetto or not?

Re: cant decide..

Black diamond plate = Sexy
(or red to match your fairings)

SI sells 2 different plates. One is rounded and has grenades on it I think and the other one is more boxy. The rounded one might just fit in there nice and flush with the curve of your seat. But you never know...might have to make little tweeks here or there but I think it might come out sweet...

Re: cant decide..

Haha.. well the words "old tool box" make it sound less appealing.

But ya i might just run to lowes tomoro and pick up some diamond plate, and ya il paint it the same as the foot plate. I think this is possible, i just checked out the seat..

Its gonna take out about 4" of the hard plastic structure. So i figure, if i just razor blade the material in the middle of that, il have 2" on each "seat" to wrap it under. Then fill the gaping hole with the foot plate and diamond and i may have filled out that grand canyon.

Thanks a lot for the input, i dont plan on starting right away... i kinda want to see how much a new seat costs, just in case it doesnt work out. But i will surely send u guys a pic when it happens.

And the best part is.. cost= some cheap diamond plate and the fi foot plate, which im sure is cheaper than the $400 and up conversion

Re: cant decide..

Yea the 2 inches on each side to wrap under is a good idea, use some staples and it will look professional.

Re: cant decide..

Haha, i got to admit the old tool box is pretty innovative.. im not really woried about the plastix though. Just worried about cuttin the actual seat in half.

U should try to paint that diamond plate some how.

gotcha well just remember in the future im making them and keep an eye on your stocker around all the welds cause they will start to crack and once they do rewelding will just end up with more cracks around the weld . i learned the hard way

O i couldnt see the rest of ur bike from those pics..

The polished is cool but u probly look like the sun going down the road, thats gotta reflect some light haha. No its cool, i thought that was the only polished section. But if it was me i think i would still try to do some sick paint on it since it allready is very custom. I like standing out!! It brings the babes lol
