Re: good sprocket size?

10 is pretty standard but 8 should be fine. It'll help keep the revs slightly lower

Re: good sprocket size?

so taking my 45 to a 56 would let me street ride and yet get good slow stunting?

Re: good sprocket size?

Yeah, that's fine and real common. Your revs will be higher, but especially around town it won't be bad.

Re: good sprocket size?

I'm rockin -1 up front and +2 in rear on my 07 gsxr 600. Works out fine. You can do "circles and 12" on stock gears honestly.

Re: good sprocket size?

whats going down one in the front compared to in the back because i hear that going down one in the front is like going up three in the back. is there any truth behind that?

Re: good sprocket size?

Its exactly what you said. It basically is going up 3 in the back if you go -1 in the front. I don't know of too many people that go more than -1 in the front.

I ran -2, +15 on a lot bike I hade (05 gsxr 600) but I have heard that too little teeth on the front causes ALOT of strain on the engine and tranny. I like doing a stock front and going big on the back personally, stays smoother at idle. But -1 doesn't seem to hurt any eigther. Most people -2 in the front and only go a few up in the back so that don't have to get a longer chain.

Re: good sprocket size?

Starting with a stock front is a good idea. In the future should you ever decide you want more or less gearing you can replace the front sprocket inexpensively for a +3/-3 gearing. Changing the back to do that is obviously more expensive especially if you need a new chain.
