so the other day i started my 954 it ran for about 5 min. and died I tried to restart it but it just turns over it doesnt hit! Does anyone have any ideas why it wont start? i figured i would ask you guys first before i tore into it and yes it has gas!

 

oh and my FI light stays on when i turn the key forward. i thought it was suposed to go off when the fuel pump kicked off

 

Have you checked all the fuses? im no mechanic but its worth a try. My 09 r6 did the same thing ended up being a ground wire.

What makes you think this is the issue? is there another way like buying a new ignition? id like to keep the stock key switch setup.

 

Yeah i checked the fuses with a meter

 

so i went outside and turned the key forward and fliped the kill switch off and i can hear the fuel pump kick on.

 

My brother has the same bike it could be a number of things..First check gas,make sure tilt sensor is up right that will turn the bike off if its not,,its located in the nose of the bike...then check your idle cable turn the idle up just a bit..if you still having a problem check all fuses..make sure all wires are pluged in..make sure you hear the fuel pump start up..also could be a bad battery so try jumping the bike as well from a care that is turned off..

 

well my tilt sensor is in order and the fuses are good the battery is good i put it on the battery charger and it has full charge i will check connections i guess

 

It's a very common issue on 954's and F4i's.

If you run the resistor and the ziener diode to the pink wire from the 12v that energizes when the key is turned to ON then you can keep your ignition still.

Friends 954 sat at a shop for 4 months while they replaced everything, I went in pulled back the loom where the wires go into the ignition and the pink wire was pulled out.

It can either pull out or the resistor in the ignition can break randomly, either way the easiest way to fix it is the bypass method, or a new ignition.

I think you can also check for the voltage of the pink wire at the ECU but don't remember for sure since I got rid of my wiring diagrams when I switched to an F4easy, and hav'nt found em again since I bought another 954.

i had the same problem on my 954 on the wire coming out of the bottom of the ignition i was only getting 9 volts instead of 12 and so that jacked everything up took me forever to find and figure out but i ordered a new plug from the bottom of the ignition to the plug down by the air intake and fixed everything might try that

 

Well i took a working ignition off of arunning 954 and it still doesnt fire ahhhhh im almost to the point of selling this thing and buying a 636

****! Sell that thing to me!!! Hahaha, just kidding... If u tried another ignition and ur pump primes n all that, check voltage at the coils harness. Or smell ur pipe as u hold the starter n see if u smell any gas smell.. It could also be trash cloged ur injectors. Remove fuel rail and inspect n clean. Oil orings when reasymbing them. I know this is dirty but give it a small shot of starting fluid n see if she runs for a second n cuts back off.. Thatl help u naRrow it down if its fuel or spark.. Iv seen bikes in perfect running order that turn over pretty strong but won't fire up, put new batt in and the fired right up. Those batts only last so long.. I'd try the starting fluid first just to c if its fuel or not.. Please post ur solution so we can know...

 

ground wire for the tip sensor..thats what happend to mine...but the fuel pump wouldnt come on so idk...some dealerships will figure out what is wrong with it foor like 100 bucks.. its worth the 100 than to ddeal w all that electrical bs
