Atown 636 subbrace help

05/06 subbrace/round bar. Nothing lines up right.

I got tray liner, exhaust, and everything off but still can't get anything to line up. This bike is like brand new so sub isn't bent at all whatsoever.

Anyone install one of these, any tips? Can you use stock rearsets with this, judging by how far off its looking the stock rearset bolts are not even close to being long enough?

Re: Atown 636 subbrace help

i didn't drill out top holes yet since the others wouldn't line up. I'm gonna grind down a couple of the subframe welds thats definately causing the exhaust bolts not to line up but the pass. bracket holes i dont know

I gave up for tonight im goin to bed. I'll ring you tomorrow if i can't get it.

ya gota grind the welds and if you want to use stock rear pegs ya gota stack washers. i made it to work with the OMR or sick subcage.i make each one on a subframe so it has to fit. thats right not a jig but an actual subframe.

I took it to my buddies work and we cut off section of side braces, lined it up and welded it back up. It fits good now. I now have a custom moftown round bar subframe brace

I know Atown said he made it on an actual subframe but the side braces were completely off. I can tell when something just isn't gonna line up, this wasn't. no amount of grinding, pulling, hitting with a hammer was gonna get it right.

I've gotten PM's from others since I posted this and they've had trouble getting theirs to fit. They too had to grind away on the brace and the subframe and use c clamps to get everything in place and bolted on.

I got it to work, im happy with it now

Re: Atown 636 subbrace help

i do make every one on a subframe !! and i do it this way to insure every one will fit with the right amount of grinding of the subframe. i never said it was easy to mount one of these things but when they are on they are worth there weight in gold. i was gona make a bolt together one but i can see it now people not keeping there bolts tight and snap there goes a subframe. and the next thread will be Atowns brace broke my subframe. then ill say your bolts wernt tight and they will be all nuhhhhhughhhh i always check my bolts and bla bla bla. yet they havnt changed there oil in 2 years and. These braces i make are the only ones out with the proper notching for the exaust and even then its still a bitch to put on. i have had so many calls on this thing and walked a bunch of people through it while they bitched and cried but once it was on they love it. hell i had my biggest crier just by another one last week LOL he said he knows what he has to do now he is good. i wasn't even gona sell it to him cause i was gona be up waiting for that midnight phone call how it dont fit

Re: Atown 636 subbrace help

the funny thing is i get people saying i have to grind my minty subframe?? and yes you do! The moral of it all is you can take that minty piece of scrap and save your self the trip to the lot and just start smacking it with a hammer till it breaks or do some modes and put on a brace. last time i checked this was stunt riding and newer bikes are hot junk for this sport. so as years go on newer bikes will need more and more mods done to them in order to keep stunt riding alive. i could make a brace that is machined out of a solid piece of aluminum or steel for perfect fitment but then the riders can pay 800$ for a brace. which most riders cant pay there rent that is y i try to make strong parts that are affordable for the average guy like my self.

No amount of grinding or drilling was gonna get the right side lined up. It was about half inch off. Everything else lined up good

I know these things are a bitch to get on but it just wasn't gonna fit.

I didn't have a chance to take pics, I will if i remember when i bring it home

Here's a pic I found of prolly your old design but it'll work to explain what was off.

With everything else lined up perfectly (not bolted in, just held in place with c clamp), The right side brace passenger peg holes lined up on that weld where I drew pink line. There's nothing really on that side that it was hitting on, top piece was flat exhaust bolts lined up but side brace was about half inch to high.

On your new braces you have a weld about the place I drew yellow mark I Cut there moved it down and rewelded and it fits great.

It may be possible it got bent in shipping cuz it was sticking out the end of the box when I got it.

I'm not hatin at all. I'd buy another one, I'm happy with it.

Re: Atown 636 subbrace help

i installed it on my 06 and didnt have to grind at all. i bought all now bolts for the rear sets and exhaust. i stacked up washers and used my stock rear pegs. i had to do alot of trimming to the under tray but that was expected.

his probably got messed up in shipping since it was hanging out of the box when he got it that is the only explanation for it. that sucks to cause UPS is usually really good with shipping and handling
