Re: Custom Frame

Went with DOM mild steel because it was just the prototype.

Now, after researching the differences between mild steel and chromoly I'm debating which to use.
Chromoly is strong, but more brittle than steel. The steel is more than strong enough in this application, and if it ever were to break, steel would bend where chromoly would just break.
I'm not ruling either one out just yet, but you can't go with the mentality that chromoly is sooooo much better. It may just be unnecessary.

you say that like this thing is selling like hotcakes. This frame is a great idea but really this thing is going to cost around $2000. How many people on here do you really think can spend that on just a frame when so many people on here bitch about the prices of cages, handbrakes, and rearsets. Hell people were bitching about $65 pegs...lol. It is a great idea but really I don't think this is going to sell well at all because of the price it's going to be.

only way id do it (if i had an 03/04) is if i could sell my clean stock frame for almost as much to offset the cost

Re: Custom Frame

Cost an wieght I think are what will be the deciding factors of this frame. If he puts a good fare price an the wieght aint bad, it may do good. But I think youd need to just engrave some VIN numbers an register it as a Homemade bike like they do on choppers(requires inspections an lots of paper work an a few hundred bucks I believe). Or if you could do it in high strength aluminum just cut the neck off a legite frame an Voila. (that's how 95% of custom made frames get titled out on the streets)

Most of them title the vins on the motor. When Buell's were tube chassis they were all built with chromoly.

Re: Custom Frame

I remember thinking a "stunt frame" sounded like a total waste, but that thing is SICKNESS! The adjustable rearset mounts alone are a sweet little touch.
