I normally just wrap my pry bars with rags and I never get scratches.

Re: changing a tyre with out scratching my minty rims

Simply if you don't have the technique down good enough to not scratch your rim, then you just don't have enough practice, and need to just pay someone else to do it

Changing a tire is about technique. It has nothing to do with force. With the right technique a 10 year old can spoon a tire on with 4" long spoons

You could try using like that plastidip for the end's of your tire spoons to help protect more, but personally, I just use motion pro metal 8" tire spoons

I'd say pay someone, or plasti dip your handles if you think you can do it. If you have enough practice you shouldn't have any problems.

+1 on the dawn. And if your gonna use the plastidip be sure to coat it more than once. I also agree on the technique bit to. use to have to pry the crap out of it. Now its like having sex. The drunker I am the longer it takes and the slopyer the job.

+1 to soapy water. I never tried a half and half mix, but I put maybe a table spoon of soap to a cup of water in a spray bottle, and soak the tire and rim with that. Makes it a lot easier

Just depends on how much money you have, weather or not you have a plug on getting tires mounted, and how often you change tires...

I can actually get my tires mounted free, but I gotta drive about 10 minutes.. And by the time I drive, I could have just done it myself
but on a painted rim I'd prolly just have my friend do it since its free

Re: changing a tyre with out scratching my minty rims

of you slice the tire first (lengthwise) everything is 10 times easier.. you can just slide the halves off the rim after you pop them off.offcourse a lil bit of lube.. then you dont need tirespoons to take m off!! so no scratches! and use your feet to walk the new tire on, again no scratches!

9 times outta 10 the idiots at the shop will scratch the **** out of the wheel and overstretch the bead of the tire, then deny it all.

true true

I know the guys at our local honda shop, and my friend runs his own wheel and tire shop, so I got good hookups here for getting tires changed unscratched

I use Suzuki rim protectors, and I never scratch rims....The Suzuki ones last the longest and stay on tight, they come in a pack of 5 for about $25..I have the part number at work if you want it
