Took the filter completely out thinking that it may be a clogged filter...

Changed my Clean air mod tube (was a bit flimsy, and thought maybe it was vacuuming closed)

Checked for air leaks all over the engine, and found nothing...

Have swapped fule to make sure it wasnt bad gas, and I ran fule systemes cleaner through the bike several times....

It pulls good on idle... It is hitting on all 4 cylinders, but for some reason its acting like 12000 RPMs is redline, and wont go over it???

The bike has 5000 original miles on it, and I recently changed the oil... I have no clue what it could be...

Oh yeah, and i changed the plugs about 5 months ago...


It will clutch up sit downs, and ss, but no tank stuff... it just bogs and fails!

Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated.... Also the FI light is not on???

does the rev limiter come on or it just wont go that high?

 

It sounds just the same as bouncing off the rev limiter, if its in neutral, and I just grab a hanfull of throttle it will go right past 12000 rmps, and straight to the rev limiter, but if in gear and trying to roll endos, or in a wheelie or just trying to get it to go past 12 grand... it wont do it...

Also if i put it in neutral and roll it up slowly, it wont go past 12000...

I am confused.... will spark plugs cause this if they are going bad? they are not that old, but i did loop an endo... but i have the clean air mod... so that shouldnt matter... I always thought spark plugs were either good or bad... will they not spark past a certain RPM if going bad???

im not sure really...lol my 636 was doin that when I first got it. My brother took it and did his magic on it. I'll give him a call and see what he did LOL

change your plugs,get a NEW filter,check ALL vacuum lines and then if its still doing it just sell me the bike for cheap....J/K.....G/L on fixing it

 

I am wondering if the Throttle position sensor could be outta whack and causing this??

 

I've also heard something about the throttle bodies....the fuel rail taking a ****.....but try the cheap stuff first. im gunna hit my brother up and see what he says and let ya know

 

tighten the nut sitting on the seat, that should fix the problem...

I will just go ahead and change the plugs just for the fun of it... What plugs do I need to buy.. i could look it up... but someone probably knows off the top of their head... Ill grab some on the way home from werk!

yeh does sound like a timing issue,, the cam chain coulda jumped a tooth or it may be stretched a half a tooth or somethin... get a manual and u can see how to check it.... but make sure u have a manual... my friends gsxr was doing the same like it wouldn't go over 10000 rpms,, and we eventually checked the timing and it jumped a tooth...

 

Ive had the same problem before a few times on different 636's....2 times it was a bad fuel pump, and once it was bad coil/coils, and another time a bad secondary valve servo motor in the throttle boddies.....

Does your FI light come on when it does this

 

If it was a timming issue, it would not just happen at 12,000 RPM+....If the timming is off it would not run properly at other RPM's

 

yeh it could be a lot of things,, just givin my thoughts.... could check the cam tensioner tooo
