I been lookin at how i can do it,shouldn't be too hard just a lil time consuming,and I don't got access to a tig machine to weld anything aluminum if I have to.

your puttin the dent on a pedestal kiddo,just take your time,you already did 1 tank,I usually start at the cap,and work it slowly from the center to the outside,start with a dead blow rubber mallet,then once u got the basic shape and size you can clean it up with a sheetmetal hammer or just a regular ball pien hammer,I never used the phonebook technique but I hear it helps so you dont crease it.then the bondo fixes the rest.If you go slow and take time to visualize where the steel needs to go it'll turn out perfect.You GOTTA do your own dent...thats when you and your bike form a family bond.

lol ahh its nerve racking for me... ive heard the "phonebook technnque" said a few times, but what is it exactly?

 

I guess you take the thinner style(local white pages)phonebook.set it on your tank,then start hittin the phone book with your hammer,it spreads the force of the hit more evenly and is supposed to create a smoother dent .I never needed to do it that way,but I hear it helps lower the chances of gettin creases that might turn into a crack.

yep so i got kinda screwed on the 636... needs a new lower engine block.. heres a pic of what i found under the JB Weld...



luckily i found one on stuntride for 150$ shipped.. but damn this is gonna be a lot of work now

 

That isn't bad,did you even take it up to pin point yet?anyone who knows how to weld aluminum halfway decent could repair that.all you gotta do is take off the cover(if it's cracked) and have that welded or get a new one,then have the block welded,have them build up the weld enough so it can be ground down to where it needs to be,It's sooooo easy.I've been welding and doin metal fab for over 15 years,believe me you don't need a block.$3000 FOR THAT BIKE THE WAY IT SITS IS NOT A RIP OFF.

 

im pickin up a block for 150... id rather fix it the right way and be done with it.. 150 is cheap


plus who knows how many chunks of metal are just chillin inside there now.. id rather be safe then sorry.
im gonna take the time to get my frame and stuff done up too like the old bike.. it should turn out nice

 

Yeah I like to do the same thing but when you look at how much time in labor and the cost for all the lil **** like new gaskets,seals,etc.etc.that **** adds up.plus it's a ton of work, A weld is actually stronger than the metal itself.the hardest part of having it welded will be the grinding to make sure it's flat and get's a good seal for the cover,and thats pretty damn easy...but then again the gasket for the cover will give you room for imperfection.obviously it's your decision but seriously,just try pin point,he's pretty good and cheap.then you wont have to do so much labor.don't forget...it's just a stunt bike

 

eh ya.. idk. im a perfectionist, so i wont be happy til it is done right..

and like i said i wanna drop the engine anyway so that i can get my frame and stuff done up.. a gasket set will only cost me like 100 bucks.. thats wat i paid for a complete one for the gixxer
