http://www.interstateplastics.com/pl....php?sku=ACEBE

fi delrin sliders run 15 beans a piece. anyone ever bought rods of delrin and cut them to size? you can get a ft of it here for $12.00 bucks. with my fi cage i could cut them to size and tap them for the bolt. thoughts??

A lot of people go that route

Just gotta decide if you have the tools to cut them out or not

Re: making your own cheap sliders?

i made my cage, i used a rod of teflon in place of the delrin. i haven't crashed on pavement yet (just because i've only ridden it twice) so i'm not sure if they will just split or not. i got the teflon for free.

Re: making your own cheap sliders?

I have done it before.....well my machinist made them. I tried making them just like the S.I ones for my S.I cage and you cant turn them down with out a cutting bit. I tried sticking the piece in a drill press and using a grinder, a wood rasp, a file...nothing worked. So after an hour or so of having hot plasticy **** all over me. I decided I'd get the machinist to make them. Mine have held up better then S.I ones...but I wouldnt waste my time with out the recources.

good to know man. all i had in mind was taking a shop saw and chopping a delrin rod into 3" pieces. as long as its the right diameter of course, all that would be needed is the drill a hole for the bolt.

they would definitely not look as pretty as the f.i. ones, but to me $15.00/slider just isnt worth it.

Re: making your own cheap sliders?

i bought 2' of 2" diameter white delrin like 3 months ago for around $30 shipped. I finally found a machinist the other day to turn them for me so hopefully within a week or 2 I'll have about 8 sets of sliders

Re: making your own cheap sliders?

my friend has a lathe so i bought some delrin a year or so ago and made some sliders. whats really mindblowing is just how much stuff is marked up. like sometimes hundreds of a percent and yet people give you bullshit stories trying indicating otherwise.

Re: making your own cheap sliders?

you cant just use the same size rod as the inside diameter of the tube. it has to be bigger and then turned down on a lath. so the part that sticks out is bigger than the part that sits in the tube. if this makes seance?if y0ou just use rod that slides in the tube and run a bolt through it it will just bend that little bolt and push in or crack in half.. ether or it wont work for **** i would get a couple feet and bring it to a machinist and have him make a bunch and be done with it. ill post a pic in a min to explain

Ya I just figured I'd over do them haha, my friend recently got a tygershark cage, and it just so happens my sliders fit right in, and if I milled a slot for a bolt hole in them, would work with the springs in a tygershark

possibly I'd have to ask him

I work with him out of town, the worst part would be trying to source a good amount of solid round aluminum without purchasing LARGE amounts of it (10+ft)
I work with him out of town regularly, going back up there this monday, can see if he is interested in making some

makes perfect sense, it must be shaped like a mushroom to cover the slider to distribute the weight of an impact off of the bolt. that said.. why not just run the delrin rod the entire length of the slider to the frame mounting bolt, with a bolt through the delrin to prevent the thing from falling out?

its crazy that cats with cash to blow on marked-up aftermarket sliders or smart doods with lathe skills (or hookups) are the only two options.

surely there's a half smart half idiot like me out there who's come up with a solution.
