Re: Where can i go to school for motorcycle technician? Pls help!!
I took a few years off after High School...i decided that I was sick of being the monkey I wanted to be the lazy *** bossman. Once you get your GED there are a million ways to get your school paid for especially if your family isnt loaded... I crammed a full schedule of classes into 2 days a week, and I can still work a decent amount of hours to keep cash flow rollin in... The government gives out so much money to useless ***** and stupid ****, get urself a cut and pay for school with it. Get a business degree or something its not very hard and it will open you up to any so many oppurtunities in any field you want.
oh yeah and you'll score way more tail in college than UTI hahaha

Here's my $.02
I went to trade school for auto mechanics and engine rebuildeing, learned a lot of good **** and found that people with shop experience that never went to school were walking all over me for jobs......then joined the Army.
I was Infantry for 5 years, been to Korea and that's where I got into stunt riding because cops don't **** with sportbikes over there. Got loads of Asian tail, partied like crazy, made more loot than your average bike mechanic. Then got stationed a couple hours from home, partied at home every weekend, and most weekends were three and four days and rarerly worked past noon when we weren't in the field training. Went to Iraq, fucked **** up.....
The driver in the truck I was working on was an MMI graduate and took a Racetech suspension course they had there. Worked in the industry, couldn't make enough to pay off stundent loans, joined the Army.
I looked at using my GI Bill for MMI or Wyotech, both schools sounded badass but in reality, it's a waste of GI Bill money when you can learn the same **** at home from Penn Foster and either way you'll get walked all over for jobs because the economy is **** and why would a shop hire you for $13.00/hr when they can get a much more experienced mechanic for the same price because he needs a job?
I am about to start mechanical engineering classes at University of Louisville. I'm in the Reserves training ROTC cadets one weekend a month two weeks a year, gonna get to pocket my whole GI Bill one simester's tuition at a time plus $1500/month, my Reserve drill pay, my VA check for PSTD/messed up knee, and slipped disc in my back, making more than most people do working 40 hrs/week and learning to engineer my own custom and performance bike parts.
I've also done a lot of metal working growing up as poor white trash, and with the engine rebuilding bacground and love for bikes I should be able to make some sick parts one day.

Re: Where can i go to school for motorcycle technician? Pls help!!
i talked to my local dealership and they say they ONLY take mechanics that have went to mmi, uti, or wyotech. they told me if i went to mmi graduated and wanted to work at there dealership they'd pay $30k a year starting off plus they're one of the few that pay commission on the side so that's $30k plus commission a year plus raises over time. sounds pretty good to me. but i mean you wouldn't be working on only sport bikes, you'd be working on fourwheelers, cruisers, jet skis, dirtbikes, etc.
Re: Where can i go to school for motorcycle technician? Pls help!!
+1 I personally know of a few shops that would hire anyone with a month of experience over ANYONE from any of those schools
Re: Where can i go to school for motorcycle technician? Pls help!!
I also thought about going a long time ago. Went and talked to a bunch of shops around here and the mechanics that worked there. Not just what I "heard"
Re: Where can i go to school for motorcycle technician? Pls help!!
there is just to many people that want to turn wrenches and think it will be a fun job. it might be fun to wrench on the weekends. but full time everyday. it gets old real fast and it pays no money even 20+year guys only make like 17-20 bucks an hr witch ant **** now days.
