r6 exhaust

i been trying to set up my 05 r6. i had an akrapovic full length with a power commander and bmc race filter and it was running like a raped ape. i just swapped out for a shorty two brothers and immediately upon installation the bike is running like **** on normal idle ie. 1300 rpms. it fluctuates real hard and just sounds like ****, now what would cure this, taking off the power commander cuz its not tuned to this exhaust? or would i have to get it tuned to it. i remember my 03 with just a regular slip on would pop when letting off the throttle at high rpm but this thing does it real bad at all rpm plus the idle bullshit.....any suggestions welcome...ps ive never had this issue with other bikes...gsxr/f4i etc...

Re: r6 exhaust

You have to get the power commander mapped for that exhaust, if it's even possible... You need to take it to someone that can map it. They will look it up to see if the commander you have coordinates with that specific exhaust.....

what about climate changes, weather . etc or even elevation .. that might be an issue but I think jesse is right here

Re: r6 exhaust

try downloading a few differnet maps and see if any of thses help before spening the 300+ on a custome map. heres the link below, PC has a lot of different generic maps for common mods.
http://www.powercommander.com/powerc...dl=123&yr=2005

thats what i did, i helped a lot but i wanted better results. so got on R6-forum.com and asked a few people that had similar mods as me, and a few poeople were kind enough to email the custom map they paid 3-5 bills for. i was lucky enough to find a guy who had the excat same mods as me including the same brands, i works AWSOME. so i pretty much got a custom tuned map for free. good luck, hope this helps.

Re: r6 exhaust

Take off the power commander? I would think it only really produces better power curves at higher rpm and maybe elevation. But if its running like crap at idle it sounds like something else...could be wrong..

Re: r6 exhaust

all that race **** robs ur low end..cheap way to give it back some low end power is to put the stock air filter back in..throwing a good map into the commander wouldnt hurt either...super easy...just need the USB

thanks but no thanks homie. i wouldnt put a powers product on my bike even if they paid me too, not only are they ugly as sin but theyre wayy too bulky and i wouldnt support a swindling scumfuck like matt powers or his **** wife by putting their product on my bike but uhh im gonna paypal you in a minute for that bracket and caliper

ill give that a try although i doubt anyone runs shorty exhausts

its gotta be the exhaust cuz it was running fine in the minutes before i swapped em out...

i used to think that too until i had a power commander that was actually tuned to my setup, it gives you smoother power across the whole rpm range as well as boosting the mid and high.

Re: r6 exhaust

The maps from powercommander are junk, they are just maps other people have sent in for the most part. My bike runs like **** with a map from them so I just zero'd out the map by downloading the control center and adding 0's accross the board. Try that first, it would be just like taking the PC out. Other than that take it to someone to have it dyno tuned.

Re: r6 exhaust

well i been tooling around with this ****, tried a few maps from powercommander nothing reall changes the idle at all, even zeroing out the map to run like stock didnt. but when i put my foot covering the end of the exhaust the idle straightens out immediately which i guess means its def an issue with the lack of backpressure from such a short pipe. you guys think that maybe putting in the noise restricter things they sell for these would help?

try it it does sound like that bike needs some kind of back pressure...

Re: r6 exhaust

the mapping fixes the air to fuel ratio......so if you switched pipes then there is the issue. that PC was mapped for that pipe or so you say so when you switched pipes you changed the hole air to fuel ratio cuz different pipes allow different air pressure in and out. so therefor your pipe is probably running pretty rich if it is backfiring. I dyno and map bikes for a living and most of the time when i map someones bike i do it by feel and not what the dyno prefers, you can tweak the PC by yourself, try leaning it out little by little.

everything i read was saying it was running lean because it pops on the decel...?? i dont know what im doing when it comes to hand tuning the pc, i uploaded a few maps but nothing helped the idle.

Re: r6 exhaust

also if your plugging up the pipe makes it idle better check all the junctions in the pipe for leakes. my old f4i had a mad leak where the midpipe met the header.

take a piece of sheetmetal and cut it and wrap half of the exhaust hole closed and rivet it in.
