Stiffer fork springs and stoppies

Im thinking about putting some stiffer fork and rear shock springs on my Crf150f minimoto. Im rolling about 150ft stoppies and finishing with a 180 right now on stock springs, but wouldnt mind a little more "jumpability" off road. How would stiffening the front end effect my stoppie game?

Re: Stiffer fork springs and stoppies

IF you do that you also need to revlave the shock and forks or you suspension will become springy and bouncy

Also when it comes to offroad, just putting springs in is VERY dangerous.. Makes the bike unpredictable in the bumps/jumps..

The best setup would be to mod cr80 or cr125 forks and shock to fit, but that route can be expensive..

Or send your shock and fork legs off to a suspension builder to have them revlave and respring them

Btw post up over at www.thumpertalk.com They have a 150f section, and they know lots about building their suspensions

Re: Stiffer fork springs and stoppies

I would do a front end conversion from a CR or whatever will fit instead of springs. When I put BBR springs on my DRZ 125L it was shady and felt dangerous to ride fast. So I bought a KX100 front end off ebay for $150 and sprung it for my weight. Then a cr85 shock for the rear which was $25 that I modified to fit. The handling improved dramatically and stoppies felt much better with the new setup.

Go to thumpertalk like towlieee said. That is where I found all the info for my suspension swap.

Thanks guys. I appreciate the feedback. I guess I could just quit dirt all together and just stunt it. It rides awesome on the pavement.

i dont see why. a stronger spring will have more strenght to expand once compressed but it will be harder to compress to begin with since it is heavier duty. the shock absorber part of them just control the rate of the spring and "absorb" the energy that a spring cannot get rid of: like how you ring a bell and it wont shut up but then if you grab it with your hand it stops. if this is such a problem which i doubt it could be then why not just run a thicker oil or replace the stock oil? majority of the time a front end gets sloppy is because the oil breaks down and people never ever ever change it for the life of the bike.

why so they can nail you with labor and mark up the prices on the parts? and in addition try and talk you into buying other stuff and having other work done as well?

tweak the suspension however you like to get it at what works best for YOU. not by what other people say to do. you cant have your cake and eat it too. suspension upgrades dont make okay stoppiers good or good stoppiers great it just makes you more comfortable if that makes any sense. its just like tires and gearing and rear brake setup for wheelies, doesnt make you better just makes things more comfortable. and getting your bike setup how you want is important for being a good stunter but dont expect it to be a magic bullet.

Exactly. When I had BBR springs in the stock forks it would pull the front tire off the ground when changing direction in tight switchbacks at the track.

Re: Stiffer fork springs and stoppies

I like my stoppies right now, but i would like to ba able to jump the bike a little more. Im not trying to make my stoppies better by upgrading the forks, Im just wondering what the effects would be on my stoppies if I made the bike a little more jump friendly.
+100 on changing the fork oil, maybe a little thicker oil will make it smoother in stoppies and keep me from bottoming jumps.
