Thirsty 50

Anyone ever have any problem with oil starvation on their fiddy. I know they are tough little motors but seems like when the front wheel is off the ground so long it might deprive the rings and top end. Anyone ever burnt up a motor stuntin one?

Re: Thirsty 50

i think you could basically run one without oil and it would be fine i had a 250ex (same motor but bigger) and we couldnt blow that sucker up even with out any oil getting to the top it was invincible

my 50 is literally the 'community bike'.. When I hit the lot I like to bring all my bikes, and typically my 50 NEVER gets shut off.. I get off it and someone else hops on it and gives it hell

And a friend up in omaha, even let his bike run out of oil and heat sized the piston! He let it cool off, and the piston cooled and became un-siezed.. He started it up and ran it about 10 minutes tell it locked up again! ONCE AGAIN let it cool, then rode it AGAIN tell it locked up a third time!
Then he pulled hte oil drain plug, about 2-3 table spoons of oil came out.. He added the proper amount, and rides the same motor to this day

and if you get an aftermarket shock, run that chain loose as ****

With my limied edition I-shock, I gotta run liek 2" of slack, and at full compression of my shock it becomes about .5" of slack

Re: Thirsty 50

The motor has an oil pump ,so even in a wheelie the motor is constantly being lubricated . To answer your question , nope never burned one up .

Have you ever opened a 50 motor though?

the oil pump only lubricates the cam/head

And the oil pump is above the oil level while the motor is in a wheelie

Just having a oil pump wont keep a motor from losing pressure.. It's just the fact a 50 is build TOUGH..

i ran the standard amount of oil and never changed it for over a year, still went hard with a 72cc kit and few other mods

+10000

If you can ride a 50 to the point that the motor will detonate, you're either a beast on it....or a total ********.
