Denting tank, creases? Dammit..

Here's a pic of what it looked like. Tried working down some on the left side and it kinda kept going, not much but enough. The right side I havent touched because I'm going to **** it up even more..

Any advice on this bullshit? Tried to keep it from happening but the damn things wouldn't go away.

Pic.

Re: Denting tank, creases? Dammit..

I just got a tank that had some pretty bad wrinkles from someone trying to dent it. I got a ball peen and banged the **** out of it till they were low enough, and then welded the cracks. Probably not the best way but it's all I could think of. Thank god for body filler lol

This is what it looked like when I got it

At the point you are at you don't have to many options. You're already fucked. You just got to hammer them out, but you will be left with small hairline cracks that will need to be welded. The tricks is to never allow the creases to build up like that by slowly working the tank with a rubber mallet, evenly denting the it all around.

The hammer gave me a hole, heh..

Started off using the phonebook and mallet method. then worked the dent and the creases came and just wouldn't go away. All my focus went on them and just got worse and now got an awesome hole and the ******* still won't go down. Focusing on the two creases gave me a completely dented tank..

Damn peer pressure, friends suck.

Re: Denting tank, creases? Dammit..

I stood on the gas tank when it was on my bike and used my heel to stomp it untill the gas cap made a popping noise then i stomped the middle of my foot and heel to stomp down the side that i wanted to dent basically use your foot untill you get it all down and dont worry about the creases till your done... then i used a heavy rubber mallet idk the exact name of the mallet but its one with a rubber head and filled with sand to make it hit softer i think... not exactly sure but i liked how it worked... and any creases i had i pounded them from one side to the other starting at the inside (closest to the gas cap) and working out... idk if it will help at all but hope it does bro... if it cracks which idk why it would but if it does i guess you will learn how to weld pretty quick lol

Re: Denting tank, creases? Dammit..

dent the tank, sand the damaged area down to bare metal then use a layer of fiber glass to repair the hole. Once that has cured smooth everything out with bondo.

or just weld it up then use bondo

No. It's to porous and the gas will eventually eat through it. There is no glue I've heard of that will seal a a gas leak. Your only option is to weld or braze it. It sucks.

Fiber glass will not seal a gas leak. It will eventually eat through it.

+1

Gotta weld it or braze it, jb weld lasted about 3-4 months for me, then sure enough it got 'gummy' and started to leak

I spend $50 locally to have them clean my tank in an acid bath to remove gas fumes, then braze 3 holes shut

Damn, at least lie to me.

Here is the product I am calling done. Just said to hell with it and took a hand held sledge and made the creases go away for the most part. I'll drag out the welder after a few days and just shut it up. Wanted something fast because this is my DD.. heh.. Some bondo and stomp grip and you'll never know.. I hope.

Frankenstien, hit me up if you're ever back in town. I'll probably still suck, but we can ride either way.
