Chains????

Got an 06 Gixxer 600...Stock Gearing is 43t. I already know that I'm going with a 60 in the rear and its 525. Will 120 links be enough, or do I need to go longer? I want the orange EK 525, but I'm scared it will be too short....HELP!?!?!?!?

i dont know about the gixxer but i just got my 60t and -1 on my 03 636 and i went with a 140 and had to cut 10 off 130 would of been perfect but i didnt want to be stuck with not enough chain so i would say 130 would be close but i know 140 will fit

Re: Chains????

everybody pay attention

stock it 43 teeth
lets say your stock chain is 110
your going to go 60 in the rear. So thats 17 teeth up in rear.
Every 3 teeth up requires 2 links added to chain.
So 17 divided by 3 equals roughly 6. 6 times 2links equals 12 links added to stock length of 110, so you need a 122 link chain. Use this and change numbers of stock if you need to

Re: Chains????

I'll thank you! What if you're changing front size too? I'm thinking about going -1 +4, so would a 120 fit that?

so its a 3:2 ratio? i was always told for every extra tooth, add one extra link. guess i learn something every few years

yeah, added one for one could make you pay for a 130 link and that sucks ***, just did my 06 setup with just a 57 tooth rear and my 120 cut off two links is perfect

by the way i ******* love this bike!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Chains????

So along the line of chains, is it better to have the chain tight or have the stock recommended 1" of slack? i have been running mine with a little slack in it, but is it better to have the chain tight?
