As of Tuesday, February 10th, 2009, the small powersports industry has all but been shut down. This affects not only dealers and new units but individuals all across the U.S. New and used units as well as parts avilability for every used unit in the nation has been called under question. This issue is far reaching not only financially but also concerning safety. With the suspension of proper sized ATV's and motorcycles suspended, young riders will be tempted to use improperly sized and built machines which could (but Lord willing won't) lead to severe injuries.

There is a waiver now setting before the Consumer Product Safety Commission in Washington DC, but has not been acted upon as of yet. We need every available rider, Mother, Father, Grandmother, Grandfather, Aunt, Uncle and any relative, friend neighbor, business or personal contact or any person who is a legal us citizen to get involved. They need to access this website, read the sample letter, type in their name and addresss then click the "send a letter on my behalf" icon below it. This will generate correspondence to all the committee members in Washington that are on the committee that oversee the commission that could act upon this. The commission members as well as my office will also receive copies of the letters set so we can be the most effective voice we that we can. The sport as well as the industry is in turmoil and time is short. The future of small powersports is at risk! PLEASE ACT NOW!!

Sent, But I am also still in the Crowd of confused, I read the letter and it sounds like we a petitioning for lead based Components to be allowed on children's motorcycles which can result in an unlikely but possible heavy metal poisoning.

Please tell me I interpreted this like the kid who ate mayonnaise off the bottom of his shoe in high school!

 

My understanding is.. awhile back they want to discontinue all lead base toys
so little kids wont end up putting them in there mouth's. Things have gotten out of
hand and as of last Saturday the dealers took away all crf50's, 80's and others ment
to be sold for kids.Crazy thing is, these 50/80's only have minimal lead used in
the frames. So unless kids are eating dirtdikes now a days, I think its ridiclous!!!

 

SENT - if for no other reason but to keep the lead there so the lil dumbass kid who tries to eat the fiddy frame learns his lesson...lol

 

the US govt. feels that too many children are EATING LEAD on 50cc and 80cc ATV and dirtbikes. So there is a ban on the selling of parts and vehicles...

Yeah... now i am glad I sent the letter. 50's and **** like that should be excluded. and if your kid is trying to EAT his motorcycle. He probably shouldnt have one in the first place...

 

Sent, sounds alittle rediculous to me

 

a 50 bike is considered a childs toy and there are limits on how much lead can be used on a toy for a child so on a 50 there is more lead then the amount that is legal and thats why there are being taken off the market, the lead is in the valves, chain, sprockets, brakes, paint, and even some of the fabric in the seat. but if your kid is dumb enough to try to eat some of his 50 then he probably shouldnt have one

 

o my god..... sorry im from canada [i could make money shipping parts to you guys hahaha no] but that is the stupidest thing i have heard about motorcycles ever. i could so see my mom saying this when i was 6 "stephen remember dont eat your dirt bike you could get sick from it"
