not a newbie f4i air mod question, need answers
Re: not a newbie f4i air mod question, need answers
I read every page OMR, and look for your responses cause you know what your talking about. If too much oil standing @ 12 it goes out the exhaust, same with the air pressure I would assume, unless the factory T is still hooked up and working, a problem i encounter on my zx, cause there were no vac. lines just a plug that I left plugged in, it caused 2 leaks that went away after removing.
oh any +1 on OMR knowing what hes talking about. Hes old and did his research from what i'm read.
Re: not a newbie f4i air mod question, need answers
all knowing OMR if i did not use the plastic auto zone T and kept it hooked up to the factory T this builds pressure correct? Now will this make it harder for the bike to turn over if i shut it off and start it right away?? cause i think i fucked up
Re: not a newbie f4i air mod question, need answers
i cant believe there is another thread about this

if you read almost any of the other clean air threads you would know that doing the clean air mod correctly does not create pressure in the motor it actually creates a vacuum and redirects all the hot oily air away from your air box and into your exhaust ..
when done correctly the crankcase vent tube bypasses the air box and is ported to the exhaust through a set of reed valves in you valve cover , the reed valves are directional and will only allow suction from the exhaust so this pulls the hot oily air out of the crankcase and will vent it and any oil that makes it up the vent tube directly out the exhaust instead of into your air box ...
are you sure you are hearing pressure when you take off the cap and not suction ?
if you have pressure then you either hooked the hoses up wrong or didn't unplug your clean air valve when you did the mod ..
the clean air valve opens and closes when the bike is running and will create pressure in the motor if you don't disable it ..

well I can understad the positive if It creates suction, I thought it was blowing air out the oil cap, if its sucking then I feel more comfortable, thanks for the response...
Re: not a newbie f4i air mod question, need answers
you can use the factory t but you need to disable it or yes it will build pressure

Re: not a newbie f4i air mod question, need answers
I did this mod and left the factory T in place and hooked up thinking if i disconnected it it will do bad. And i keep having this problem were the bike runs great at first and starts dramatically loosing power Re: not a newbie f4i air mod question, need answers

Re: not a newbie f4i air mod question, need answers
ok heres the problem I have with this mod, is it makes sense at first to keep oil out of airbox but I tried it for a few days and realizied when I took off my oil cap that my motor has nowhere to vent air now? sure it keeps the oil out of airbox but where does the positive pressure go to? next thing you know is your blowing air and oil past the rings and blowing seals, think about it, if you take a air hose and blow it into a pop bottle with nowhere for the air to go what happens? the bottle will eventually pop! does this make sense to anyone or am I off my rocker? the motor needs somwhere to vent pressure! if Im wrong someone please explain why when this mod is done 10 minutes after you ride your bike and you take your oil cap off air comes out like crazy with the bike off? anyone
or did i do the mod wrong? basically you T all three vent hoses together on top of valve cover and remove the plug in valve correct?

Re: not a newbie f4i air mod question, need answers
Great!!! Now Im comfused!...
I did this mod like 10 months ago. I used a aftermarket T from good old ACE hardware. I left the stock T thinging inplace and pluged into the computer, is that ok? or should I have removed it entirley?? All my hoses are hooked up right, I just thought I should leave the stock one there.

Re: not a newbie f4i air mod question, need answers
I agree with you completely and I'm happy to see that I wasn't the only one that felt this way. But after seeing OMR response below, it makes sense.
I am very experienced & knowledgeable in building motors, mainly from wrenching on cars, but I was not aware that the 2 hoses coming out the front of the valve cover hook up to reed valves that direct the air to the exhaust. I was also concerned with building unwanted pressure in the crankcase with this mod so I did it a different way. Based off my experience with dropping the bike on the side and hydro locking the motor, the oil was sucked in only from the hose that goes to the top of the air box. So, I just removed that hose from the top of the air box and hooked it up to a small breather filter (like what you would use on an old car valve cover). I left everything else alone and I have not had any problems or hydro locking issues. What do you think?

p.s if youre experienced with cars then think of this mod the same way you would think of an evacuation system on a drag car , they run tubes from the headers to the valve cover breather to create a vacuum in the engine , it's free horse power
Re: not a newbie f4i air mod question, need answers
page 4 or 5 of the Kleen air sticky thread has a picture for the gixxers and also saw in a thread you can also get it from how2stunt.com as well..... my vaccum hose looks like runs from throttle body to the air box(grey hose with a purpleish line.) not sure wtf is up with that tho.

You sir, are an idiot. You sound exactly like youngstunna1 except this time, you have a gsxr and not an R1????
