Blew out my knee..

Tried saving a 12 and ended up blowing my knee on the 3rd step.
hyperextensions suck. Almost saved it.. Not sure what I did but I'm breaking down and going to the doctor either tomorrow or Monday to find out.

Anyway, I was tossing around wearing knee braces when I'm at the lot but since I've never worn one and know nothing about them, would this limit leg movement? What about the Icon leg armor? A buddy said they help hyperextensions..

I have a fat person leg..

as someone who has had two different knee surgeries in the past 3 years on the same knee.. and one being very recent (see brace in my avatar).. go to your doctor asap!!

as for the brace, it depends on the brace for whether or not it will limit your range of motion. I do think you should definitely get one. My brace has settings on it which can limit movement, which is ideal for some situations, but if you get just a normal brace, its not designed to limit your movement, its designed to stabilize and to support your knee. So it really depends on what brace you get.

In the meanwhile, stay off your feet as much as you can, and ice and elevate!!!

Re: Blew out my knee..

sounds like an ACL and/or miniscus tear to me been there done that. I was told by a Doctor who treats proffesional snoboarders that even the best brace will not completely prevent injury. your muscles, skin, and fat will provide enogh give to allow the joint to flex the wrong way.

Re: Blew out my knee..

Tore my MCL in august. I just picked up some Thor Force knee brace/ pads for xmass. Haven't used them yet but seem like they'll give more support than just knee pads.

Re: Blew out my knee..

Tore 2, I rode moto with astricks, They are made by a company called CTI, If I were you I would ask the Dr for a perscription for knee braces, This way they will make them for your knee and insurance will pay for them, (CTIs) .. The only bad thing is they will give you hella suppport and help with hyperextensions, but not stop them, They are designed to break at some point... This is so you dont break your feemer..

Re: Blew out my knee..

Ever feel like you wasted a few hours of your life going to the hospital?
They weren't impressed that I waited 3 weeks before going in, and pretty much told me what I already knew.

"How long has it been since you hurt yourself" 3 weeks, came in because the top of my knee is still swollen and it's kinda awkward for me since my bending limitation is from that area. Drain it or something..

"You need an MRI" Duh. Wasn't aware they couldn't do it though..

"Nothings broke" Figured that.

"You'll probably want some crutches" Already have a set for when I'm on my feet a lot since I look weird limping.

"Does it hurt" Not really unless I sit and forget my leg's injured and keep it bent and then stand up fast; hell I can even squat without much problem.

"Well, take some anti inflamitories" I want your job.

Money well spent..

Guess I'll check out an orthopedic dude Monday. Weather has been awesome, and I can't even ride down the street.. Guess I'll apply for some Medical Ins. as well..

Thanks again guys.

Re: Blew out my knee..

Yeah Knee injurys suck. I just got my ACL replaced 3 weeks ago, along with meniscus and cartilege repairs. The ACL is stressed during hyper-extension. If you hyper extend to far then you can tear your ACL and damage your cartilege. I went years not knowing I didnt have an ACL and this wore out my cartilege. Honestly you need to get it checked out. Chances are you will be able to walk out of surgury if they go the cadaver/arthopedic surgury. I just have a couple small little incisions where they worked from. Its crazy. Theres nothing to it. I was suprised at how simple and non-evasive everything was. Hope you have good insurance though. In the end my total bill was around 10K for the MRI and the complete surgury. Then you have some physical therapy. Get it checked out, if worse comes to worse you can get it taken care of and still be back to riding in the spring.

the time wasnt totally wasted tho... most insurance companies require a referal to see a specialist such as an MRI, otherwise you would have to pay for it out of pocket and MRI's run between $1000 and $1500 at most places

Re: Blew out my knee..

With what I've studied from Google and from where my pain/discomfort is, I want to say its not my meniscus, ACL, MCL, PCL, ect. It's all appearently located right above the knee cap. I wish the Doctor's would have at least drained my leg or something so I could get a better grip of where the pain actually is. It's swollen right above my knee cap..

How long did it take for you guys to get back to riding after a knee injury? Sad thing is, my riding season is all year long..
