front end alignment
front end alignment
mys treetbike has been pulling to the left some. i take off my hands and the front end will shift to the left and start turning. i switched the weight from the leftto the right side but it didnt change anything, could it b the forks? what coul be wrong?
Re: front end alignment
bad front tire? is ur chain and rear wheel lined up perfect? also see if one of ur calipers is hung up and pulling that side.
Re: front end alignment
the tires ar new and the rear is aligned so i think its that or the forks. above the nut on the top of the forks there is a metal piece that comes up w/ lines on it. both are the same distance from the lowest line to the nu,, but there is a mark on the top of each and one is facing straight but the left one is facing a little to the right. whats that mean?

Re: front end alignment
that for fork adjustment. are you stunting this bike? i need to know. also if you wanna make sure they are set the same turn both settings all the way to the right and when u cant go any further turn it back a 1/4 turn. then they will be set the same if i remember right.
Re: front end alignment
ooh ok got ya. ok on the gold part there should be think lines. coun't them from the bottom and make sure they are the same. if not adjust them till they are. i believe this is preload but don't hold me to that.
Re: front end alignment
the larger nut, does that adjust the forks becaude that is the only way to adjust the forks i think i have, on the gold part, thay are the same # of lines but the one on the left isnt stright like the one on the right

Re: front end alignment
Learn about your bike first. Suspension settings are not what you need to be looking at for this issue. Its the alignment of the forks in the tripple tree. And how "new" are your new tires?
Re: front end alignment
ok now i got u, i dint think that adusted, i just thought it was a guage. thnks
Re: front end alignment
loosen both upper triple tree bolts then push the suspension up and down, then tighten
then do the same with the lower ones
if you hear a "kink" sound as you are loosening them, thats a sign of the forks being bound up
oh and if the "caliper theory" is true then how the hell do bikes with 1 front caliper work??????????

if one caliper is bad and doesn't release all the way it will drag and pull the bike to one side. it has happened. seen it on harley and older bikes.
Re: front end alignment
i dont think thats true cuz theres so many bikes that come with single calipers including most dirtbikes and when i roll stoppies on a dirtbike it never pulls to one side...
Re: front end alignment
if you had both wheels, this would be a reasonable theory. the one tire would be having more friction and try going slower against the road, making it pull. that is what actually causes pull from the brakes if the balance if off in a car. one wheel is trying to stop harder, acting as a pivot point on the ground. with one wheel, there is no possible way that it could be a pivot point that way. it would need another tire to try to come around the side. the brakes only working on one side of the wheel will still slow down that one wheel. just not as hard as two brakes could.
