Help with tank dent
Help with tank dent
So I started to dent the tank on my k6 today, the bikes been retired for about a month and I felt just like getting up and doing it, first time ever trying it. If all goes badly I'll just buy another used one and try again. Ok so I started pounding away with a rubber mallet for a few but a couple problems already (probably due to me going to fast).
I already have 3 small cracks/holes in the tank, where the metal creases in some areas.
and the little phillips screw at the bottom of the cap must have shook loose during the banging and it dropped into my tank...wtf.
here are some pics. my camera can't take up close shots too well I guess.

Re: Help with tank dent
I've only dent 2, both were successful. Looking at the pics it would help to cut out the splash gaurd in side the tank so the cap won't be raised. As for holes/cracks you'll need them welded to seal them from what I've read on here. Otherwise start in the middle and work the dent out(shape it). I use a 2 or 3 lb rubber coated dumbell and a T shirt.

just dented my tank .. had the same problems. i just kept bangin away trying to flatten the folds.. no luck though.. so when the folds became small holes "just like yours" i did the best i could to make it look good . after that go to the local parts store . j.b weld makes something called "water weld" for gas tanks and such.. use it!!!! works great . get some bondo. and finish the job .. make it look like u want it to with the bondo.. prep it and paint it....
.. get some grippys 2...

ya probably should have, oh well it seems like with some help from that water weld stuff it should turn out okay in the end. I started stomping in the gas cap and that seemed to work decent but now I'm pretty sure I'm going to need a vortex gas cap.
Re: Help with tank dent
well since you already got holes beat that thing down 2 were you want it. get it just how you like it. then take it off and empty gas out. leave the cap open for a few days and make sure all gas has evaporated. wile your at it get the screw out!! then take it to a welder and have the holes patched it should only take 5 min to do the job. then throw some bondo on that thing sand and paint. you can use the JB weld but its not as reassuring as a good weld job. hope this is usefull
O and if you want to make sure the gas is evaporated i just use a loong *** match and stick it in the tank and wave it around. Its not the safest thing but thats what i did with a buddys 929 tank. and dont drop the match inside the tank + make sure you wait at least 2 days before doing this with the cap open

Re: Help with tank dent
you should have used a skateboard wheel, i have only dented 1 tank but it turned out good because i used a skateboard wheel, hit it with a hammer and it came out good with only 1 small crease...
