Byron dragway holds the world wheelstanding competition every year in northern IL....it's pretty cool, drag cars take their wheelie bars off and scrape bumper, every year theres a good YARD sale, this year a white mustang went for at least a 1/3 mile and caught the wind and rolled many times, and as the pictures show, one car wheelied right over backwards, which resulted in some broken parts, nobody was hurt!! The weather sucked, but this was the rain date for the first date it was supposed to run.....keep in mind that these aren't "wheelie" cars...they are DRAG cars, with the wheelie bars removed....it's pretty cool to see!








we rode some wheelies too, VMC and Team Select Few....but with a 20 mph cross wind and being 40 degrees, it wasn't even fun...even for the 5 minutes we rode for lol

 

oh yeah, neal from vertical mischief took all the pics....risked his life standing ont he side lines waiting for a car to land on his head LOL

So what is the prize for such event, cuz im sure there is a **** load of broken parts after all is said and done.

 

i think the winner gets around 20 grand.....but the damage done is wayyyyyyy more LOL.....but these guys are alot like us....they fix their own ****, the guy that flipped had junk yard heads that he worked over in his basement and was running on JUST motor.....no NOS

 

the guy that runs this drag strip used to go out to the west coast back in the day and hire racers to come drag in the midwest.....he and broadway bob helped promote drag racing in the midwest like no other...on a normal sunday this track has maybe 2k spectators.....this event, when weather is warm and nice, has over 10k, no problem....the place is packed....the guy that flipped drove down from canada just to flip his car LOL......
