Catching idle

Probably a newb'd question but I'm curious about catching idle.

The bike is carb'd so as I understand it, I should be in the higher rpms in comparision to injected bikes. Not sure what range I am at since I have no gauges, but it's up there. I can scrape and toy around that area without stalling. Obviously, I can run slowish, just not enough. When I flop the bike, I'm usually on my feet. (I slip off from time to time, need better shoes.)

Anyway, When I clutch it, I can bring her up to balance and beyond, my problem is it seems that when I release the throttle I drop the front end. Bring her up, I go past the point, tap the brake and go to falling again. I can't seem to find the sweet spot.

I'm just now thinking about it but can't get back on until later in the week and was wondering if I should try uping the throttle a bit more? Is there something I should actually look for? What exactly am I missing?

And FYI: I'm staggered, no hand brake.

I'm all for practicing and know it's how to learn, I'm just wondering if there's anything I should look for.

Re: Catching idle

when you practice hang out between balance point and scraping, focus on finding the point where you arent using any throttle.

at this point it will just pull itself but you will have to use little throttle and brake imputs to keep it there. might help to turn your idle up to 2500-3000 for this, you can adjust it to what you want later after you find idle

you need to be back about a foot farther than the wheelie in your avitar

When im slowing down in a wheelie as I get slower the bike stsrts wobbling like crazy? Is this my position or something mechanical? (stock gearing and stag stance)

Re: Catching idle

ok you need to learn finner throttle control and brake control instead of choppin throttle off and on just lightly do it and same with brake u dont need much pressure, all your tryin to control is from going to far back when you learn that you can then control it to were you scrap , and run your idol about 2500 i dont have a gauge on mine i just adjust to were i can get back to balance and the bike does the work
+++++++++++ practice

Re: Catching idle

I had a feeling was just seat time.. I get better everytime I go out but the cops where I live are *****es so I gotta go 30 miles away to sweet air strip. Problem is, I don't wanna ride there alone and get hurt you know.. That would be my luck... Thanks for all the input guys:YEAH

Re: Catching idle

I just got idle this year... and only legitimately a few times before I flipped a stoppie and put me out of stunting for the year. But this is what I found.

My biggest problem with catching idle, is that I would clutch it to BP too slow. So I'd be at like 15mph, trying to both roll off the throttle, and use the brake to slow back down into idle. I did this for the better part of a few months.

When I finally did catch idle, I noticed I clutched it to BP much faster, and would quickly roll the throttle all the way off. Maybe use a bit of brake to feather it... and the bike would be going slower than my idle was set at. Then the idle would pull me to the speed my idle was set at.

Hmm... that sounded wierd. Here...

Clutch it fast to BP, so that you are slightly slower than what your idle is set at. This allows the bike to pull you INTO idle. Rather than being at BP faster than your idle is set at, and trying to slow down into it.

Hope that makes sence. Have fun!

I know that much but, my question is will the stock idle screw let me get that high? I know most people make a change cuz the RR screw is trash?
