Brake pedal position??

Ok before I get flamed... yes I am a complete NOOB when it comes to stunting or anything other than keeping 2 wheels on the pavement. I wan't to start at least being able to carry the front wheel up on my 08 rr but I am 6'3 and have big feet and it is virtually impossible for me to cover the rear brake and keep my feet in good position on the pegs so I usually get scared and give a half assed attempt. My biggest fear is not being able to cover the brake right or slipping off the peg to do so! Is the engine brake on this bike enough for basic wheelies or is there something I can do to make the pedal more accessable..... Thanks for the input and let the flaming begin!

Re: Brake pedal position??

what helped me learn was keeping the side of my foot on the bike so i knew where the brake was and that it would be there when i push down

you might want to learn on something else if you can otherwise you might have one thrashed 08 rr

Re: Brake pedal position??

just get used to it. i hear the same thing from new riders all the time. "my foot is too small" " my foot is too big" blah blah, just keep at it and youll get used to it. if your doing staggered wheelies make sure youre keeping most of your weight on your left foot so you can modulate the brake.

I agree and I have learned balance point and brake control on my predator ATV... I know its not the same but I do know how to use the brake. also I did pow pows on my old f4i but I dont like the power wheelie it seems too unstable and I want to learn right..... I am mainly trying sit downs but have tried the staggered stance and I do like that better... thanks for the input!

Re: Brake pedal position??

I'm a noob too when it comes to the wheelies, but what I usually do is adjust the lever as high as it can go. It's uncomfortable as hell on a sit-down but on a stand-up I can feel it right underneath my foot, which is better than having the lever lowered. I tried it a couple of times with it lowered and it seem like I had to really push my foot down just to tap the brake, so the closer the better for me.

Re: Brake pedal position??

Unless you have clown feet, your feet arn't to big.

Go out and practice, unless you have some sort of disorder, like a bad ankle, or a locked ankle that you can't move, then shut up and go practice!

In my honest opinion, a hand brake is harder to control then a foot brake... You don't have as much available braking force, and you must learn to cover both the clutch and hand brake at same time, which is a lot harder then learrning to cover the foot brake and clutch!

If you can't hit your brake, adjust it.

It all comes with practice.. People don't spend $2000 on stunt parts, then go out and kill wheelies.. It takes practice!

I agree no handbrake at least not til after what gofastcrazy said happens and I have it beat and ready to be a full stunt bike and learn slow ****.... for now I just want to safely cover the rear brake with my feet still in a good position if i come down hard or soemthing like that happens... oh and I do actually have a problem with that ankle (tore my achilles tendon when i was 12) and it never healed right so it is a lil more stiff than normal so maybe its that cause to cover the brake it feels like i have to have my foot locked in the up position ... again thanks!! anyone know what adjustment there is for the 08 RR... sorry noob ? again!

Honestly, unless you can go outside right now, and kick your bike off the kick stand, and pick it up and toss it over the other way, without caring like gofastcrazy said, I would NOT stunt your 08!!

Are you paying on the bike? Or do you own it?

IF your paying on it, my best advice, would be wait. Get a cheap quad, a cheap 50, a cheap dirt bike, or a cheap sport bike, and stunt that..

If you want to STUNT, you WILL wreck. Its not a matter of if, its a matter of when.

And a 2008, if you loop a wheelie, Your bike will be DESTROYED

the stock position will be fine. i learned by dragging my rear brake (keepin it engaged while in your wheelie), some say it isnt the proper way to learn, but it worked for me and fast.

Re: Brake pedal position??

When i started i wound the adjustment so the pedal was as high as possible. that helped alot. i have then slowly wound it down as i have progressed. made me feel alot more comfortable and progress alot faster.

good points +100000

I'm 6' 7" and have damn near clown feet,

I don't know anybody that just woke up and was bad ***. anybody you see murdering it has put in lots of time and work and struggle to get to where they are.
put in work
learn to use your back brake and learn to skid and modulate your brake before you try and rip it up in a wheelie and run the brake. and get a stuntbike unless you want that 08 destroyed cause you WILL crash sooner or later.

Re: Brake pedal position??

im in the process of learning the rear brake 2.. its tough for me to get the hang of the rear brake for the time being so i'm just tryin to be smooth on the throttle and clutch it nice and high.. i also sometimes do them off the gas if i have a LOOOONG straightaway and try to bandle it that way.. but at least finally i'm liftin em up consistently which makes me hapy as **** i was riding non stop this weekend.

but next time i go out and try em i'm gonna force myself to bring it down with the brake one way or another just to get the hang of it.. once thats done i think i'll have a good block or 2 on lock all day.

i'm already super psyched about just gettin it up finally.. after all these years on this site.
i'll try to have someone film it so i can get flamed or usefull tips

Re: Brake pedal position??

if ur doin a sitdown ur weight should be on ur *** and hands/arms and if ur doin staggered u should have ur weight on ur left foot hands/arms so ur brake foot shouldnt be too hard to maneuver when goin for the brake... try it out itll help... the brake is there and its not 2 hard 2 find so itll grow on u eventually
