636 exhaust woes

What are people doing about their exhausts on this bike?

I have 2 main problems:

A. The hanger is junk, and every wreck I have it ends up contorting and no longer supporting the exhaust, causing it to fall off if I don't bend it back (which I can never really do, as it's burning hot and I don't want to wait for it to cool off).

B. Every time I wreck, when the hanger bends, the exhaust hits the rubber protector on my footbrake line and pinches it. I'm pretty sure this can't be good for anything involved, so I'd prefer a bracket that's more stout and won't keep nearly melting my footbrake line.

Weld the bracket to the can then connect to mount. I have a hindle I think and it's a tab welded to the can, that and a car clamp tightened down so much it warps the header a bit and I have had no problems. I get a separation maybe once every 2-3 months.

Re: 636 exhaust woes

My hanger broke yesterday. Im going to cut a little bit out of the hanger to tighten it up and then get it welded up.

Re: 636 exhaust woes

Any other suggestions?

I was thinking about beefing up the hanger a tad and having it tacked to the exhaust like Jay was talking about.

I just don't have any welding equipment of my own, so I was looking for some ideas that might not involve me having to take my stuff to a welder.

Re: 636 exhaust woes

I wonder how it would hold up if you ran rivets through the strap into the can?
