Wowwww... I am thoroughly tired after reading this whole thread.
Nobody's right & nobody's wrong in the for love or money debate when some of you just ride for the love of it but some of you have done well to make a life of doing what you love.. Undoubtedly all of us have wished we could hop on our bike & pay our bills! On the other hand, valid points there that you should know & anticipate by now what a struggle that is & always will be. And if it were a moral dilemma for businesses to compete against eachother this would not be America. Quality providers lose out to Wal-Mart bargain hunters on the daily. It's a sad fact but a reality that we are all aware of & should not be surprising you.
I agree you should not take the trip for $1500, and if they are not willing to pay your asking price then it is YOU who is opting not to do the show! Walk away with your pride & your standards, & go catch a bigger better fish instead of lamenting the throw-back that got away.

That is all. Now if you will excuse me, I am going to go undercut the professional prostitutes that put their hardworking asses at risk everyday to make a dollar, by giving my man some loving for free, for the fun, love, & enjoyment of it. ;-)

 

I could care less either way, If anyone wants to make this their business so be it, its on them to struggle. If anyone wants to ride for the love for the fun of it, because it's the sickest hobby ever, then so be it. I agree for the most part with Thorpe, I have 2 sons, a 3 yr old and a 4 month old, and a fiance. I would love to be able to ride my bike and practice, but I have to put food on the table for them ,pay the rent, pay all my bills and most of my lady's bills.

Daycare costs are more then she would make, so its smarter for her to stay home. Anyways In order for me to make the money for the fam I have to travel around the country with my current employer, and am away from them for 3 or more months at a time. My point is i would love to live my dream and stunt ride at all the competitions and do shows and practice daily, but I have had to grow up because My family is first and without me staying focused on their wellbeing,financially especially, then they dont have a chance. So I just stunt for fun (still with a dream though) whenever I am back home.

But hey If you can make a good living from this then so be it, Rock on I give props to all who can, to each their own.

I used to ride all the time for fun. but after being broke and breaking myself i realized it was just cooler to get paid. Free bikes, free parts, and the chance to travel all over the world to ride... I work for the love of riding now. Through stunt riding for a living i've gotten more opportunities than most people would ever have. Dont get me wrong i love to ride but if you look at how comps are going these days its like everyone goes out and breaks bones for nothing? What does first place make? Not nearly enough to get there and back if your trucking across the country. plus all the docotrs bills and bs you go through one a weekly basis. WHY PAY TO RIDE when YOU CAN GET PAID To ride and do what you love?

I guess I'm too wrapped up in my responsibilities being the breadwinner for my family. Whatever makes you happy then do it big!

 

When people Talk about people "selling out" not riding for the love of it. I'd like to see the same people have the pills to walk up to people like pfieffer and tell him not to make money anymore because he should be riding for the love of love of the sport.... He'd laugh. Dlish put it perfect on the like the first or second page people have different opinions on the industry. that will never change

 

yeah, but i dont see pfieffer coming on here and crying because someone did a show cheaper than he would have...

if your going to be a professional then act like a professional.....

+10000000000 this is the whole point! if you want to try to stunt for a living, and not have a day job, then dont cry if you do not schedule a show! like i said before.... sell your service, not your price! if you think you are justified in charging 2000.00 more for a show, then you better be prepared to sell you service!!!

 

I dont think there's any question of wether or not Pfieffer rides because he loves it. It's kinda obvious I don't think he is a sellout myself.
Don't remember hearing or seeing anything about him crying about getting beat in a comp either. Yeah he lost to Dan but he knew he screwed up and never whined. I saw the vid and it seems like he just said something like " I circle maybe too fast, lose traction, but that's my style I like Fast"

and maybe everyone in the industry whines, but i have yet to see anyone make it as public and tried to justify it as much as you two
