Am I doing street wheelies the right way??
Re: Am I doing street wheelies the right way??
****, for what its worth i though the same way till a few months back. im not dumb enough to drive a car with the brakes on but for whatever reason i felt like riding the rear brake on a bike was the right way to keep from looping
. it also smoothed out my whoolies a bit. it didn't occur to me that i was doing it wrong till i started warping rotors and going through pads. its still hard for me to ease up off of that **** going slow for some reason but i can finally tippity tap on the streets.
you'll get it. i think ive seen you in a san jose lot a while back with lil flip and a whole bunch of sbf peeps. you were rollin idle pretty good so im sure you advanced alot since then. post some new vids! its cool seeing people that are learning like me.

Ya that was me...and ya I did get better even though I haven't had time to practice as much as I would like. I will take a new vid once I find a much better practice spot.
Re: Am I doing street wheelies the right way??
+1 i did that on my 2007 r1 , 2nd gear wheelie doin 30-35 riding the break
now i am back to riding 50 mph on the streets and dont mess with slowing down lol (not til i get a stunter)
so yea. dont ride it, but cover it, you can def ride it for a second to slow down, but keep good throttle control. roll off the gas once you're hittin engine brake
Re: Am I doing street wheelies the right way??

god I sound like such a pansy Re: Am I doing street wheelies the right way??
riding the brake going 50+ is like russian rulette, once that fluid reaches 300-400deg. your done for.
theres a vid on youtube of DURTY, thats a perfect example. I couldnt find it, post it up joe durty! lol

I didn't see any point in the video where the brake was needed, until his fluid boiled!

Re: Am I doing street wheelies the right way??
Why ask stupid questions. Would you drive your car down the highway with the brakes held on and think thats ok or normal ? What do you think will happen
Just because your doing a wheelie now its majically fine drag brakes and it wouldn't have the same effect as if you were just riding normally down the highway ? Just STOP AND THINK for two seconds before you talk ok..

you need to realize that people that are just getting into riding wheelies in the past...... say... 3 years? all they hear about is sprockets, hand brakes and using the rear brake to help them wheelie. How is this guy supposed to know?
When I started doing wheelies I never touched the brake, I covered it but never used it unless I absolutely needed it. Nice wheelie dude! looks good, just try to use less brake!

ahaha that's funny.
What up mike? where you been man? I just have my gixxer right now but I'm down as **** to go practice bro, my license got suspended so I can't drive anywhere so whenever you guys got room for 1 more bike I got gas money an whatever.
Re: Am I doing street wheelies the right way??
Without being a total dick i just figured people may have common sense. But since you dont ill explain in detail. Your bike will float its called BALANCE POINT and thats where you need neither gas or brake the bike will just sit there all by its self. Thats where you ideally want to ride which means you need no gas or brake. NOT GAS AND BRAKE. if you dip below this point you use GAS if you fall behind it you let off gas and if that will not work you touch the brake. Even in a circle your bike has a balance point.
Thank you Sir. you should be Teaching BP 101... LOL...

#1, is that a Cage on your 07 r1/ if so can you PM me some pix ???
Compared to my old 750 the R1's BP seems extremely Fkn High up...
im -1 and have been clutching 1st up @ around 5K about 25-30MPH.../ Highway 2nd 7K 60MPH
When i finally feel the Floating sensation of BP i Cant See..(sit downs)
and it causes me to lean to the side. and then Vear to whatever side im still looking out on.
Also how the Fk can you do a Staggerd Stand up...
I tryed standing up on both Front pegs but i Dont feel comfortable at all!
So i tryed Staggerd, But the way the tail pops out right by the Pass pegs,
I cant get my leg to be straight out. its like all Deformed and retarded,
Also When up the pegs fealt like they keep wanting to Fold in???
Have you experienced this? how do you work around it?
