Difficulty pulling a wheelie in second gear

Well I joined this forum obviously because im trying to stunt and would like to take to some people that have done it before, and because fireblades.org dosnt let you discuss any stunts.

So I have a 2001 honda CBR 929RR and im trying to pull wheelies and hold them longer. I can pull a wheelie in first by getting my RPM's to about 5 or 6 grand rolling off the gas and back on rather fast, and the front end comes right up. I can ride it on one wheel till i hit rev limiter and it comes back down.

When I try and do that in second it just takes off really fast. I have been told that I should be able to do that in second and get the same thing. I have also been told to pop the clutch, well im kinda scared to do that cause for 1, I know that it is alot of power in a 929 and im not real fond of the idea of the bike on top of me at high speeds eather lol.

Two cause im told that it wears out your clutch a whole lot faster, and im not rolling in the big money so, I cant afford to repair the clutch a whole bunch of times.

So if I do have to use the clutch (with as much detail possible) can you please explain to me how I would go about it, w/o flipping it over on top of myself.

Re: Difficulty pulling a wheelie in second gear

READ THE WHEELIE THREAD DOOD!!!!!

grow some ***** is the first thing
sencond you have to practice keepin your foot over that rear brake thats your first priority
then use your clutch to bring em up start slow and work your way up,baby steps bro
practice bringin em up and settin down with the brake dont worry about ridin em out just yet
then once you got the brake progressively bring em higher

im no pro but i can wheelie so thats whayt i know
your best bet is to read the wheelie thread, practice then read it some more then repeat

Re: Difficulty pulling a wheelie in second gear

you gotta clutch it, go 30-40, pull in clutch, rev it, then dump the clutch( if you slip it slowly it will wear your clutch out), keep trying reving a little higher each time. To pop it up nice and high you'll have to dump it near redline.

Re: Difficulty pulling a wheelie in second gear

ok, well stunting Will, not might, but Will cost alot, cause number one your gunna be blowing cash on a cage sub cage clip ons if you want em' a 12 o clock bar if you want it, and an *** load of other cool stuff. and also little **** too. ok clutching it up if done right realy dosnt cause that much more damage really.

and when learning to clutch it up. dont ball with high rpm do it with low rpm and see how your bike reacts, then go up from there. and remember to keep the clutch covered and one foot hovering the rear brake.
o yea and you cant let fear stop you or your not gunna get very far in this, well i guess tis a sport...

but you dont have to listen to me, i mean im no pro i ride a 07 r6 with not **** done to it, hell i just finished fixxxing it.

Re: Difficulty pulling a wheelie in second gear

i wouldnt worry about a 12 bar or a handbrake or sprockets
just focus on the basics and save your cash for fork seals

Re: Difficulty pulling a wheelie in second gear

lol ya... when I got this bike I didnt plan on doing any of this. I just wanted a bike that I could ride, cause I love riding bikes and it was a whole lot cheaper on gas then my truck.

First time I had ever even gotten the front tire off the ground was cause I just got into the gas, and when I did it started carrying the front tire. Well naturally it scared me and I got out of it had a **** eating grin on my face calmed down a tad and started bunny hopping with it. (not sure if thats what you call it) Till I was able to do what I do now.

But everything that I can do is self taught. I never had anyone to talk to, or anyone i got to ask questions.

Re: Difficulty pulling a wheelie in second gear

Yea 2nd gear on a 929 is kinda crazy because the thing still has massive ***** and will pick up alot of speed too. Practice in first untill your comfortable at balance or just having it up in geneal before you head to 2nd. Bottom line is if you are not crashing you are not learning. Well you can learn without crashing but it takes like 100000 times longer. So chances are if you are lookin for 2nd before you can handle 1st your lookin to crash which isnt a bad thing its just something you have to accept. Wear some gear and give'r.

Re: Difficulty pulling a wheelie in second gear

dont do power wheelies which is what youre doing. too unpredictable and the one time you power up past your comfort zone its a wrap. You need to stay in first and once you could do wheelies where youre not at redline at the end youve found BP. Until then stay in first, learn the back brake and get 1st gear clutched wheelies on lock. At that point start throwing some 2nd gear wheelies coz by then you'll have the brake on lock and the chance of you looping a 40 or 50 mph will be a lot less. Good luck.

Re: Difficulty pulling a wheelie in second gear

bro you need to focus on the sound of your engine to bring it up, when you hear it starting to gain powerband snap the throttle off pull on the bars as hard as you can and snap the throttle back on, then before you run outta gear clutchless shift to the next one til you hit like 125 after that it's kinda scary and dangerous

Dont give him bad advice. if you dont have bp on lock you shouldnt be giving advice bro. Im not bashing but I didnt give any advice on this site for at least a year coz I was learning. Youre tellin dude to clutchless shift when he gets to redline If he was at BP he would never make it to redline. Dude, practice the clutch up in first gear in a lot. Once you get that on lock everything else will start falling into place for you.
