Re: A.C. Farias Retirement Thread
Hey gang, I talked to AC this afternoon, here are the high notes and some things he wanted me to pass along to all of you:
He's grateful that the tandem partner was not injured, to be alive, and for all of your thoughts. He has been able to read these threads and he feels really happy to have been able to participate in the genesis of this sport. He has been riding bikes for a long time, and enjoys hearing that he has influenced people to do great things. It feels good to hear that his career meant something to other people, too. Thank you all for expressing your thoughts and making him feel better while he's hurting. it really does help.
The wound itself is still somewhat open, not all the grafts are uncomplicated, but overall, he is coming along. If heart were all that mattered he'd be walking right now.
Music makes people happy, and he's looking forward to being able to devote himself to developing new skills.
He's giving himself the chance to do other things. Stunting will always be something he loves, but the strain riding was putting on his body was starting to hurt more and more, even before the crash. So it seems this is the right time, and he feels it. other great riders get to shine, and he has enjoyed his time at the top.
He has clearly spent some time considering the safety standards at exhibitions, and how easily someone could be injured. In Europe the courtesy is to put the children in front, where they can see, but many times there are no barriers. Given he mentioned it during a kind of serious part of the conversation, I'm sure he'd like to see that changed.
The stress he puts on bike parts is enormous and he does not blame the brake manufacturer for the failure. he seems to have no time for blame. He's just really happy to be alive, super focused on the goal of being able to put his feet on the floor, and eventually walking. He's in the hospital in Barcelona closer to home, and it is a very good hospital. It's hard for a man like AC to be dependent on people, or to be still, but he is managing really well.
his attitude and character just blow me away every time I talk to him.
He doesn't want to leave stunters behind, he just wants to stop riding. I think he misses you guys all of the time already. He seems to be taking this as a sign for him to slow down. I respect this perspective. especially since he has no choice but to slow down, he isn't allowed out of bed.
He'd like to be a part of stunting still, and is interested in judging competitions. I'd come out to see him play the Sax and be a judge.
anyhow, have a good night all.
AC if you're reading this, it was great talking with you, as always.

Re: A.C. Farias Retirement Thread
there's no better feeling meeting an idol and having them be one of the most down to earth people you have ever met. after meeting AC a applebee's just hanging out with everybody one night was one of my best memories of any of the stuntwars iv'e been to. i really hope you have a speedy full recovery.
Re: A.C. Farias Retirement Thread
Truley a innovator of the sport i still remember the first time i seen AC in a video ,when the first star boys vhs never left the vcr . I was amazed then and now to hear that he is retiring . My best bro being (euro) Graham, ac was a huge influence to us both and will be missed alot .
