Knowing what we know now, R6??
Knowing what we know now, R6??
I know everybody has their favorite bikes to stunt and I have always been the same way.
I have stunted so far: F4, F4i, 05 636, 02 Gsxr, little on the 600RR and of course the original beast the 900RR. I've owned a 99 r6 but didn't know anything but standups on it back in '00.
Everybody says the F4i is a tank 636 pulls like a tractor etc..
Reading back through the old post everybody says the R6 isn't a great bike to stunt.
Well WHY NOT??
This is what i hear and read about the bad:
1. THe throttle is touchy... WELL that can be fixed easily with an F4i throttle tube (or just learn good throttle control).
2. THe subframe is week...WELL so is the 636 especially the 05-up.
3. It leaks oil into the airbox...WELL not with the clean air mod.
4. It has a weak frame...WELL so does the 636
The good things about the bike seem like they would make up for all the bad to me:
1. Lots of power and down low torque.
2. Very light feeling
3. Very roomy
4. Smooth engine at all rpms
5. Big enough tank to have plenty of room for pull throughs like the f4i and older 636. 05 636 tanks suck for room.
6. Great brakes
7. lots of parts availability because they were basically the same or can at least be easily modified to fit 99-08 parts (that's the "s" model for 06-08)
I will be picking up an 04 this week and I plan to try it out for a while as my next stunt bike. I will fix the few problems it has and go from there.
I ask this because I've watched through the years how you see everybody jump on the bandwagon (I SO HAVE I) for the best bike.
Funny how everybody went back to the 03-04 636 after people stopped crashing so much for the favorite bike when they weren't the favorite back a couple of years it was all about the TANK.

F4i is great no doubt.
What's the problem with the tank for you? Was it dented?
Re: Knowing what we know now, R6??
I've loved them myself and I understand. There's just things about them both that I don't like (not many on the 05 636). I think the R6 may be the happy medium
I had an 03 R1 it was a blast. Sold it to get into stunting full fledged.
F4i is great no doubt.

I bought an F4i (<<<<avatar) once that had a huge dent in it and it would literaly break the skin on the back of your legs. The sides were at least as sharp as a butter knife

I like my R6 so far, and the throttle isnīt THAT touchy, I went from a scooter where you didnīt need any throttle control, straight to my R6 and I learned to control it pretty fast
Sometimes it can be anoying but youīll get used to it
Get an SI cage for it, works great and it doesnīt roll on to the tank if you have the sliders
I donīt really like the tank though, it goes up a bit from the sides to the cap, so there is an edge, you see it in this pic:

i started on the 05 R6 and honestly i loved it...yes the subframe and throttle and all that but like everyone has said all small problems that are easily fixed....
but the bikes are light and do have alot of power
i went to an 04 636 and i loved it as well and now im working on an 05 that i have to see how i like it...but i also may pick up another r6 very soon just for the hell of it...

Yeah I could see how that tank could be a pain in the ***

I don't think the R6 has any more problems to fix than any other of the favorites so I'm sure I'll agree with you. I ould've liked to have picked up an 05 tho just for the inverted forks and and nice brakes.
How many of you still ride with OutkastZ ? I met a couple of the guys back at Freestyle Freek fest in Hattiesburg back in May 06 and Phsycofest in Metarie back in 05.
Re: Knowing what we know now, R6??
I hope i like it... im trying to get it set-up to my liking...just got my new cage in... so piece by piece
And as far as OutkastZ goes there aren't to many of us...right now i am the only one out riding and i have only 1 show lined up that goes every month..
couple of the guys said they were making a comeback but have not seen them or there bikes yet so now sure how true it is...
Re: Knowing what we know now, R6??
R6 Seems Like A Pretty Strong... In Order To Reinforce The Subframe You Just Make Side Supports From The Passenger Bracket Up To The 12 Bar Hole .. Rookie Has That On His .. And I Made Some Similiar For My Gsxr .. Not 1 Broken Subframe Since ...
Re: Knowing what we know now, R6??
I actually like they way it looks
I know the feelin man I'm the only one left around my parts too. Sux.
Maybe we can get a few guys together for a ride one day somewhere mutual.
Thanks for the info on the subframe.
Not sure I know who Rookie is

Re: Knowing what we know now, R6??
Weee first post... Well guys semi newb rider here. I just got an 08 R6 for my second bike... only thing is I haven't ridden in about 3 years due to joining the army / deploying to iraq.
Any way I love my R6 I only do sitdown's and am learning some standups just because it is a brand new bike and im not ready to stunt it out yet tho.. im looking soon to pick up an 03-05 as a stunter so i can get on my way to stunting.... or atleast trying and falling many o many o times.
If anyone can answer me this question... i keep wheeliing for longer and longer but im afraid of my engine becoming oil starved, would just overfilling by say a quart hurt the bike any/ lessen my worries of oil starving / faceplanting / dieing because of a bike shutoff?
