On another note...a side benefit to this thread was getting to see how you guys (riders) feel about the photographers that take their time to take pictures of you . Not your girlfriend or buddy taking pics--but the couple of professional photographers who come out to shoot stuntriding. It's kinda disheartening that the majority opinion is that we aren't worth being paid to take pictures--"it's only a picture"--that being said--aren't you saying that stuntriding isn't worthy of having a professional photographer out to give it coverage???
I know that Heidi and I never charge the riders we shoot--because honestly--most of them are our friends--we are hanging out anyway--so why not help them get exposure...but c'mon--don't pull the "I'm broke cause all my money goes into my bike" card!!! We spent the same amount of money in gas to get to an event as you, we are paying for a hotel room same as you, and frankly my dears---my camera equipment costs more than some of your bikes do!!!
I don't make alot of money on stuntriding (a couple of gigs a year from Stuntride Mag and StreetMonsters Mag hardly pays my bills) --I make money shooting weddings here in Atlanta--and for all of you guys who think my photos aren't worth the money I ask--I have enclosed the rate quote letter from the company that I work for (which by the way, is the number one rated event photography studio in Atlanta). Since I have worked for this company for over a year--and am consistently booked for weddings--someone must think I'm a pretty decent photographer and worth the price.
I guess my point in all of this is not that I expect riders to start throwing money at us for taking pictures--just that a little appreciation for what we do would be nice! Without us--what would you look at on SL while you were at work!!!???
This is not directed at everyone--I know a ton of you appreciate what we do--and trust me--I see all the comments you make when I post up pics--Thank you for all the kind words!!!! This is only directed at the riders with the mentality that apparently we shouldn't ever make money on stuntriding because they don't. My answer to that is--get off your *** then and do something to push the sport yourself--then and only then can you judge me for making any money on the sport!
