i just finished with installing a hand brake and bleeding the system. no air good to go. take it out for a test spin. each time i use the hand brake it keeps the pressure on the pads. so i re bled the system and it's better. go for a longer ride then all of a sudden it gets real tight and same thing. just had to loosen the bleeder valve. I've tightend every thing and rechecked everything. what am i missing?

 

What kind of handbrake setup do you have ? Normally if your brakes stick its cuz the piston in your caliper is dirty and wont return or the caliper is not free to move itself or the pedal is jammed somehow.

 

line could be kinked or you could have it routed wrong depending on what setup you're using..

 

I got a 01 R1 hand brake from a guy who races in Cali. I initially took the brake apart and checked it when i got it. Nothing seemed out of the ordinary but it could be. It got dark and i was pissed so i gave up for the night. tommorrow i'll be at it agian. a whole weekend wasted ******* with dumb ****.

 

checked the lines for kinks as well. all braided brake lines and i kept them all almost perfectly straight. will check agian though

 

i bought an adapter off of ebay and where the resivoir went i have my hand brake going into. rear brake is the same. I ride an F4 so if it's suppose to be different let me know. a guy here told me to take apart the caliper and make sure the piston and the bolts it slides on are greased. agian it will be tommorrow so im hunting for all my option and doing them all at once. last day of the 4 day weekend and have to get out at least once

 

My guess is you fucked up when you put it back together and the plunger is in backwards or something like that.

 

im usually the reason and good guess. the plunger assembly was super basic and no way to get it backwards. checked the seals as well no leaks and keeps pressure.

 

Id clean and wiggle the caliper then to make sure its free and working well, but you have the line going to the right spot and if its kink free then i cant see a reason for it other then the hand master is fucked.

never thought of that but i'll try anything now... a friend just sent me a thread on gsxr master problems where people actually ground the piston down so it allows it to travel further back and allow fluid to return.

 

yea, but this is an r1 master... do a search on those and see if anyone has needed to mod the piston before you go and ruin one for nothing

 

it does sound like a caliper prob !!!

 

is the master down by your foot causing it maybe? I had not enough slack in my pedal and it caused similar symptoms after messing with a new Brembo set up recently with my bike...

good luck with it. that sucks when it happens and your in a whoolie! over and over and over again...carrying a wrench in your back pocket! LOL

 

make sure you check cause it can cause the exact problem your having...

the fluid expands when it gets hot and that will put pressure on your pads if there isn't any room in the res , there is a full line for a reason

 

see if it does it by just using the footbrake

Yeah it "sounds like the caliper" but there's no reason for it to happen if it was fine before you installed the HB.. Especially since you are running a single caliper setup

sometimes when you drain, rebleed brake systems without cleaning the system throughly the debris gets clogged in the mastercylinder relief port. Happened to me...i didnt clean it...debris clogged the small pin size hole which is the relief port to return fluid and relieve pressure when the lever is releases..my brakes were smoking and the caliper was locked, good thing I caught it early........take it apart...use a smalll piece of wire to poke it out/clean it all..put together and rebleed...

Your pads are probably toast as well from being overheated and glazed over so replace those as well!
