99 F4 wont start-WTF!!!!
Re: 99 F4 wont start-WTF!!!!
re wire the ignition correctly then take the ignition completely apart till you get all the way down to the tumbler it will only work in one position but it will spin 360 degrees so try every position but that will turn the power one and you should be able to start it................. if i remember correctly there is a little pink resistor in the ignition that is i believe for the fuel pump or the computer or something and if you are trying to hot wire it you are bypassing that resistor there for not getting the correct amount of power to a key part of the bike.................. but i could be wrong its been quite sometime since i owned an f4
Re: 99 F4 wont start-WTF!!!!
UPDATE!---I tried plugging in my buddy's 929 ignition set (it was the same hookup to the harness) the key turns on the bike but it STILL WONT START!!! I tried spraying starting fluid and it will act like it will start and nothing. What else would it be? Its getting fuel.
Re: 99 F4 wont start-WTF!!!!
Well, I guess I dont. I'll try unplugginng the fuel line behind the filter (checking the filter) and see if fuel is going to the carbs/fuel pump (I'm not sure where it goes after the tank). It would'nt be the plugs? The bike has sat for about a month without being started. Could it be something differant about a 929 ignition (even though it hooked up the same way)? The battery died from trying to start it so many times but its been on a charger. It still sounds like it wants to start; its just not getting that special something to make it fire. WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON!!!!!!
Re: 99 F4 wont start-WTF!!!!
cool, glad you got it running, be caeful, you can fry the fuel pump running it straight to the battery, theyre not designed to run constantly. i fried three CBR fuel pumps over the years doing this.
if it does fry, the pump will not allow any fuel to pass, if you are in a jam you can completely remove the fuel pump and run it gravity fed, just make sure you have a full tank of gas or it doesnt feed well, it'll run fine.
and carbed CBRs have different key/igntion setups than Injected ones. the diode is only in FI models, carbed CBRs just connect all the wires together inside the ignition

Re: 99 F4 wont start-WTF!!!!
you need to make shure that you don't have a ground problem and that pump needs to go through a relay. It is not ment to run all the time. I had the same problem with a vstar. It kept on poping regulators and frying the relay for the fuel pump.

Its stolen...i learned a long time ago that when someone denies something hard like this guy, its not stolen! * 2 post later * its not stolen! * 1 post later * its not stolen! etc., 9 times outta 10 the ***** stolen! hahaha
