929 fork seal change
929 fork seal change
so yea i kno there are a ton of ppl using 929 front ends on there f4i's and the few ppl that rock 929's who has actually changed there fork seals themselves? im having no luck separating the outer tube from the inner tube do to the bushings that are on both tubes.. your supposed to kinda slap hammer them apart and force the outer tube bushing to come out with the fork seal & washer im having no such luck any1 got a suggestion??
Re: 929 fork seal change
Use something thin to pry the dust seal off, slide that down the tube.
with a big wrench, crack the top cap loose, this is easiest with the fork still in the triple and clamped. There is an 8-10mm allen bolt in the BOTTOM of the fork, take the front wheel and axel out, stick your finger up there..... you'll find it! LOL! that will allow you to pull the whole damper assembly out of the fork, be carefull with it, most of them have a long aluminum tube holding everything, its kinda flimsy (FRAGILE)
with that all taken out, now you need to remove the fork seal. take the fork off the bike, pour out the nasty oil into an oil pan.
next, remove the metal clip that is on top of the seal. I cant remember if the 929's had a washer, if there is, take that out so it doesnt hang up in any groove.
now, gently push the fork tube in, and slam it back out to pull the seal out..... like you would use a dent puller, but just be gentle with it.... it'll come out.
PM me if you need more help.
You know what? Loosen the top cap, then loosen the bottom allen bolt, then remove the fork from the bike.... when you pull the allen bolt out, its gonna be like a drain plug and all the oil is gonna come out.
There is also a copper washer on there.... replace it, if you dont, it will probably leak. my buddies 954 did because he wouldnt replace it.

Re: 929 fork seal change
i kno you need to "slap hammer" the bushing/seal out after u take the seal clip off... ive done it plenty times in the past.. (tech for 6 years) but for some REDICULAS reason mine would NOT come appart holy fukin ****... funniest part is i started with 5 forks... sold 3 to my boy and all 3 i sold him came appart perfectly! i was like W_T_F!!! so i got one of mine appart and used the other left side i sold my boy.. then i proceeded to cut the tube in half to see wat was going on LOL
u can see in the pictures how the inner tube bushing was gettin passed by the outter tube bushing... very werid u can see how perfect the bushing are on the tube behind it.. wat its supposed to look like..
