You can either cut the plastic or melt it (which looks better).

To melt the plastic:
Warm with a heat gun from the inside then quickly put it on the bike and form the plastic by push down on the plastic make sure you use towel to push the plastic down, so you don't burn your hands.

i dont have a rr, but i always thought heating it up, and putting it on the bike, then using a basketball to push the plastic in, would make a pretty clean setup...

Re: 600rr tank dents Post up!

i wouldnt do it by yourself either!!! when you do it, you need one person to hold it in place and the other person to push the plastic down. main thing is TAKE YOUR TIME!!! takes me and my boy about 2 hours to do it. do one small section at a time. ill try to post a pic tomorrow.

we started right in the middle in front of the gas tank then worked around to the edges. pretty much the same same you hammer your tank down is the same way you melt it down. i still need to touch up a couple spots on mine but for the most part it came out good. after it sat over night, it fully hardened up and changed its shape a lil bit but nothing crazy.

i tried using the rubber mallet to shape it but quickly found it was 100 times easier to just use a shirt and towel

he didnt have a heat gun so he cut a hole in the plactic for the metal tank to come through, and later glassed the back plactic so it had a better lip.

Re: 600rr tank dents Post up!

propane torch works WAY better than shitty heat guns, just roast the plastic on the inside till it starts to melt/burn, blow out any flames, throw it on and press it down... only takes a few tries and the paint won't get damaged on the other side. Wear suede work gloves cuz it gets HOT!
