Help! Riding idle and idle questions.

Been working on riding idle. I must admit, the whole concept of it isn't nearly as hard as I expected, I'm just having a couple of questions both about the bike and about myself:

1-What is the proper posture for standups? I used to have no trouble maneuvering the bike how I wanted, making left turns and right turns was no problem (highway speed or low speed), but now I can't do anything but go right. I have to fight most 2nd gear wheelies with all I can just to keep them going straight, and when I ride idle, I end up having to set down 90% of them because I'm headed straight for the grass on the right side of the road... I even do all my wheelies in the left lane now so the crown of the road can help me go straight. My buddy jumped on my bike and had the same dead-right problem but thinks it's something about our posture, any ideas?

2-My bike is stock geared with stock idle cable. When I'm riding on the idle, the bike continually dies down lower and lower and never recovers from my brake inputs. IE- Start idle at 3k rpm, give some brake input, idle now 2.5k rpm, give a little more, idle bogs more, until I pull the clutch to keep it from stalling. I know it's not just from killing the brake because I've had periods of riding in the bp with little to no brake and the idle still doesn't pull itself back up.

3-Is there any way I can stand that will make it easier to remove my hand/hands from the bars? I've tried a bunch of NTH but whenever I pull it off the bar I have to work so hard with my upper body I normally kill the brake and that's the end of the whoolie.

Any help would be appreciated, maybe I am going about this all wrong

Re: Help! Riding idle and idle questions.

staggered is hard to do NTH...FIB or FIS is alot easier for NTH...

for the going to the side check your stance...more than likely you are putting more weight on one side...then check your tire...psi and tread wear can mess you up...

Re: Help! Riding idle and idle questions.

Is your rear tire on right? A rear tire that is not on straight will cause it to pull when in a wheelie. Other then that no clue im still a newbe around here

according to the marks on the chain adjuster my **** is straight. i even adjusted the right side out some to compensate for the pull with no luck.

Re: Help! Riding idle and idle questions.

What's your psi at?

Also what kind of tyre?if you'vegot a race style tyre it'll have an annoying profile that'll wanna chuck you either way and be harder to balance on.

if its not the tyre, try doing a seat stander to see if you have the same problem. If you don't, then its you.

Hth.

EDIT: beaten by the post above. :p

Re: Help! Riding idle and idle questions.

I have been starting out with my revs at 3500-4000. That is with a 55 tooth sprocket. It might be harder on the break but it recovers good. It is hard to catch Idle though. I got pissed and am just working on seat stander combos.

shinko is no problem

If you can get it in the air, you should'nt ahve any problems

It sounds like your just murdering the brake too hard.. Sure it might not seem like it, but thats hte only reason your front will drop..

When first learning you'll probably need high idle.. 3500+

I learned with 3500 on stock gearing, and got down to being able to ride 2k idle with stock gearing before I re-geared.

It takes time and practice. I kept thinking I needed gearing to go slower.. NOpe.. I just needed to quit murdering the brake

Re: Help! Riding idle and idle questions.

i never used a shinko, but i have used conti and they are prob similar tires. the last 900 i bought came with a conti 190, and yes it also pulled hard to the right on a crowned road, but i figured it was probly just the 190, since they tend to follow the pitch of the road. if your pullin to the right in the lot where it's flat , then i'd say its just you.

question- does the shinko chirp when you pull it up like the conti did? i hate that!

also, i'm still just doing straight stuff, but i like 18psi. i don't think there's any need to go below that

Re: Help! Riding idle and idle questions.

yeah i normally run 20... let it down to see if it would help me go straight but it really hasn't. the tire doesn't chirp as far as I can tell regardless of clutch-up speed.

Re: Help! Riding idle and idle questions.

so, its gotta be body positioning. try putting your weight a little farther back on clutch up, that will force you to put more weight on the left peg.
