help....f4i

just got everything powdercoated on my bike...frame/subframe/swingarm etc....bike ran fine before i took everything apart and now that i have everything back in place it is running like ****. I already pulled the plugs out and put new plugs in but i can't get a steady idle. It either wants to be at 1k RPMS or 4K RPMS....anyone have any insight as to what may be the problem? I've gone through and checked the harness a few times and everything seems to be plugged in, in the correct locations

Re: help....f4i

Just got everything powdercoated???

To me that sounds like check your grounds.
Make sure everything is grounding well. All your grounds need to be on bare metal, so start scraping or run direct leads back to the battery.

Just a thought since it ran well before.

Re: help....f4i

This has nothing to do with grounds... if your bike isn't ground properly it won't even turn over. 9 out of 10 times your fuel pump won't even prime. If your bike is running like crap you've fucked up your vacuum lines somewhere, either you crossed them, forgot one, or possibly have old and cracked lines.

Start off by doing what Nags said to make sure you don't have a leak where your throttle bodies bolt up to the cylinder head... that's pretty common on F4i's. If that doesn't help, check all vacuum lines and make sure they are 100% hooked up correctly. Make sure you MAP sensor is plugged in, everything. If the bike is STILL running like crap after then grab some starting fluid and spray starting fluid (while the bike is running) on all vacuum connections (where each connection plugs into a "T" fitting or inline fitting) and listen for a change in RPM's. If you spray a line and your RPM's dip then there is a leak there.

Not necessairly true......for the main ground, yes. But there are several grounds that can cause the bike to idle funny such as the fuel pump....Which i know prob didn't change, and i think it's prob just a vaccum problem, but it's always possible.

Then the bike would be running intermittently and would cut out, the way he described it the bike is just running rough. If a ground is loose, the bike will cut out.

i couldn't even fit my **** in the exhaust unfortunately....still having problems guys...I did spray some starter fluid inside the ram air tube while it was running and it did dip in rpms but i couldn't tell whether it was just because the bike was running like garbage or not....I know the throttle bodies are tight but i didn't spray and silicone spray on them, i swapped out the map sensor and all that crap and its still doing it. So i guess i'll have to re-check the vacuum lines
