My buddie just got screwed over hard. Whats your advise

Ok so my buddy has been looking at r6s for a while now. He found one on a cycle website and it was 05 r6 with 3000 miles in great condition. He called the guy and the guy gave him a story of that the bike is at his wifes house who he is seperated from and he lives in NYC but that if he was serious about buying the bike he can go pick it up from his wifes and meet him. so they went and met up at some parking lot in north jersey. (My buddy is not the brightest at times by the way) So he meets him up there and he takes the bike for a ride they agree on a price ($5700) and he signs over the tittle to him. well this was on friday. Sunday he brings the bike over to my house and were looking at it and i take it out arouud the block and i take a look at the tittle and it didnt look at all like any tittle id ever seen before. So i look at my dads yamaha tittles for his bike and they look nothign alike. So i look at the vin on the tittle and go to look on the bike and the vins on the frame are grinded off. we then called my buddys uncle whos a cop and he told us the tittle is fake. he then called pone of his coworkers that was on duty and they ran the guys imformation and there was no address or person of the guy who sold him the bike. so the bike was obviously stolen and a fake tittle made for it.

My friends uncle (the cop) told us that he probaly shouldnt report it becuase they wont be able to find the guy and they will impound the bike and he will be out the $5700. He told us to somhow make it legal or sell the parts or somthing. I feel real bad doing this knowing the bike is problay stolen but i also looked at it if we dont then 2 people got robed for all that money.

My friend asked me what the posibilitys are to do to make it so he can register it and the only thing i can think of is to buy a 05 r6 frame with a clean tittle and swap evrythign over. i figure its probaly going to cost him like 1500 but its the only thing i can think of. Dose anyone else have any ideas? Also dose anyone have any idea how the guy wouldof had a stolen bike yet have keys for it? I guess he just swaped the ignition?

That sucks man, ALWAYS CHECK THE NUMBERS. But now he can get fucked for possesion of stolen property, and it'll be a felony, because it's more than $500

That's The Best Thing I Can Think Of, Buy A New Frame And Swap Everything, Or Part It Out.

+1 be careful with it whatever you do. My little brother is a felon because he was drunk and took someone's golf cart for a spin. He's a retard too, so I feel where you're coming from.

He siad you would have never suspected the guy of being a scumbag. he siad it was a mid 40s man, driving a newer green toyota tacoma. But as i asked him questions about specifics he realized how stupid he was. The main thing i dont understand is how he didnt realized somthign was fishy with the tittle but it dosnt mater now. How much you guys think a frame with clean tittle will be?

Re: My buddie just got screwed over hard. Whats your advise

first of all your just as much of an idiot as your friend for postin that **** up here. secondly, if there's still a vin on the motor, then have your cop friend run that, guarantee it comes back stolen. the right thing to do would be to run that vin if its there and get it back to the original owner, then punch your friend in the face for being such an idiot. i just don't see your logic behind it, you say "no sense in two people being out money". but your not out anything, the original owner is(who didn't ask for it to get stolen). if you ask me the original owner should have the bike back and your stupid friend should be out the cash

ps. im kinda bias though. i got my bike stolen, it was insured, but i never got the money back for the erion exhaust, new tires, ohlins shock, etc.... i wasn't happy

if you can find someone with a clean title and just buy it then just get a vin punch and punch the vin into the frame and ur good to go. did it on a friends bike. just my opinion. someone on here has to have a title they are selling.

I feel where your coming from. my first bike was stolen 3 weeks after geting it. Granted it was a pice of **** and only cost my $1400 but i only had liability so i was out the cash. I like to think that anyone who has a bike worth a decent penny would have theft coverage but i could be wrong so i like to think if it is stolen that the person got money for it.

My buddy had his 06 cbr 600rr stolen and he didnt have theft insurance. he is still making payments on it. so dont assume it was insured.
