Cover your handbrake kids

Cover your handbrake kids
So i was out just riding some of the smaller streets around here pulled up a second gear seat stander. Was riding it for a bit cars started to slow down a bit in front of me so i dip it back to slow it down (Did not have the handbrake covered, did not clutch it up covered my own dumbass fault). I go to grab the handbrake no no no ... round bar starts dragging for a good 4-5 seconds finally i realize its not gonna happen and just fell off of the back.
I immediatly got up ran to my bike hit the kill switch felt fine picked up my bike restarted it and rode home(luckily i was literally 30 seconds from my house). The front end is a bit tweaked i pulled the forks off and they are as straight as can be. Lower triple bent possibly?
Anyways as for me I cant be anymore thankful I rode away without a scratch ... My powers cage did more damage to the cement than anything. Minus my elbow being a bit sore from smacking the ground I must say looping a 2nd gear wheelie is not as bad as i thought it would be.

I do. I actually always cover both and for some reason I just had the clutch covered this time I even slowed the bike down a bit with the handbrake and put my finger back on the bars then cluthed it up... and still don't know why I did.

I don't cover mine at times when rocking SS's on the streets.. but only when I'm tired as hell from killing it and trying to recover some... I got killa throttle control and some steep gears so HB isn't used to much in the higher revs.. but still.. damn should have been natural reaction to reach a finger out for it....

Re: Cover your handbrake kids
ya, with cars around probably better to be smart about it.
i always keep my fingers on both clutch and hb...never take them off.
also, as an FYI, if it's not coming off the bar, pull the clutch in....it'll come off that bar real fast if you grab the clutch with the hb, trust me!
glad you're ok....stupid mistakes can get you killed

Yeah it was really stupid of me. Honestly i still am wondering why i did it i have even told friends of mine i think its stupid they don't cover both the clutch and brake at the same time.
Thanks for looking out all.
Its one of those you have to mess up to learn situations and now i know i wont let it happen again.
P.S. i did get the front end pulled off just to check the triple and it does seem fine gonna throw it back together tommorrow.

Yeah I hear you on the cement damage. My SI cage left a nasty gash in my lot. I had to drill out about 4+ inches of packed gravel from the Cage pipe ! Same thing happened to my front end. It straightened out after riding, loosening and riding again. Good job not hitting anything

Re: Cover your handbrake kids
when i was just learning to wheelie....powerwheelie I should say....I had stock gearing on my zx9r and was doing a 2nd gear standup....tankhumper...lol.....had the rpms way up there so I guess that I looped it at around 70-80 it wasnt as bad as I expected. ground down my shines and knees, but i had a riding jacket on so that saved my upper body. I remember watching the sparks and the silent bike skidding down the road. It blew out the stator, flywheel and cover. Had to ride mandem back to town lol
