Another New FTI review

Just like KJ, im not sponsored by Full Throttle. I have run many different handbrake set-ups and masters. i normally use the GP Tech or the old style FTI with a 1000rr, gsxr, brembo, R1 and even used a rc51 master. I have also run a 4 piston caliper on the back before. I have NOT used a Ho Hey though.

ill try to be as detailed as KJ but he did a great review.

Got the new FTI handbrake on last night and set up. If you read the directions on bleeding it then you will have no problems. I read it twice just to make sure i knew what i was goin to be doin. after i heard the issue of some people havin to re-route it after they installed it the first time, i went ahead and routed the lines and what not first. saved me a big headache.

so i followed the directions and got the lines and master mounted up. everything bleed fine and the footbrake felt solid.

next came the installin the ASV lever. i put on the lever and next came connectin the cable to the master. heres where i ran into a small issue. i noticed that there wasnt enough slack to connect the cable onto the master. i played with the adjustment on the asv lever and still could not get enough slack. then i remembered why on the msr i swapped out the MSR adjuster with the stock honda adjuster. so did the same with the ASV adjuster and that solved the issue. had enough slack to mount the cable to the FTI master.

Once that was established, it was now time to figure out what setting i wanted. i tried all 4 of them. i noticed when i put it on the setting furthest (on the outside) the cable was too tight and it felt as though the brake didnt grab until the lever almost touched the handle bar. i tried adjusting it at the lever with the adjuster but then the cable would be too tight. when i put it on the closet inside setting, the brake grabs almost instantly. so for now i just let it on the the first setting and we will see how it feels on sunday. even on the 1st settin, it feels pretty nice.

i do notice there is that 1 pump delay as well. i had that with all my handbrakes so it doesnt bother me.

I will give you guys an update sunday night or monday.

oh yea, the ASV lever is PIMP!!!

Did you have the same pump up delay like w/ the old systems? Or like the one I had... where the HB lever was very tight for the 1st few pulls after using the footbrake?? Then it would operate normally.

I was used to the old 1 pump lag... but this new opposite effect really had me scratching my head.

YOU AGAIN!

We want feedback from people that know what a hand brake is supposed to feel like.... not someone that has never used one.

Btw.... you gonna come down for some riding this year or what!? We've been out all week!

actually i did have the one you had at first when i had the cable connected to the setting on the outside. but now that i have it on the setting closest to the inside, i dont have it anymore. also after playin with the adjuster on the lever as well.

did you have an issue with it not feeling firm when the cable attached on the outside setting? issue as in it didnt grab until the lever was almost touchin the bar? when i tightened up the adjuster at the lever it was as though i was pullin in the brake

I guess I would say that there was more lever travel than I was used to w/ a regular master....

I tried the cable real loose, and again real tight... on both the 3rd and 4th settings and the lever will come all the way back to the bar if you pull it hard enough.

But on the #4 (outside) setting there was enough brake power b4 the lever came all the way back. IDK if that is what you were asking?

I didn't have any issues w/ the cable slack/adjuster or not having enough cable. Did you make sure to push the adjuster all the way onto the perch? When I first got the lever I didn't push it all the way on and it wouldn't let the cable go on.... there's like a "click" type of lock when it goes on all the way, and it takes a bit of a shove to get it on.... if that helps any.

yea thats what i say asking. the lever didnt actaully feel firm until it was all the way back to the bar. but it does actually start to braking instantly.

i think im used to just feeling a firm handbrake instantly. gonna play around wiht it a lil more tonight and see what i come up with.

Re: Another New FTI review

yea i ran into the same problem with not having enough slack with the asv lever so i trimmed a 1/4 inch off the adjuster bolt and im not runnnig the adjuster **** either now it works fine. i thought i would have more slack running the hb on the right fork so the cable wasn't as kinked, but just by trimming the adjuster bolt it works fine on the left side.

my bad. been so damn busy lately.

ok so after that show i re-bled the handbrake again and played with the cable. had a few air bubbles in the line and got the cable to route to the 4th setting without a problem. the handbrake grabs pretty strong now. i did another show last sunday and it locks up the back wheel without a problem. feels good and i like the way it feels. gonna bleed it 1 more time just to make sure no air bubbles were trapped in there. dont think there is but better safe than sorry.

overall, im happy with it and will be keeping the handbrake. i like the idea of not ever having to buy another HB set-up again.
