learning with a hb

o.k you know when you hear of some people get into stunting, one day they wanna become a stunter the next day they get a bike n the day after that they get a hb and a bar on it even though thet havnt pulled a wheelie yet, but im curious is it actually easier to try and learn bp, catching it on the brake and slow stuff with a hb from the beginning or just use the footbrake n wait till your ready to move to the next level of tricks, is there actually any benifit or is it just a waste of time?

Is there any people that have handbrakes and dont bother using the foot brake even if they're riding a normal sitdown wheelie or is it only for off the peg tricks? this might seem like a stupid question but i have no experience with hb's at all.

Re: learning with a hb

you should be learning good ol fashion staggered wheelies before you even worry about a handbrake.

Throw a cage on your bike, go out and start learning riding BP with staggered wheelies. A handbrake is only going to confuse you.

3500 or even 4000rpm idle to help you learn, cover the rear brake, and force yourself to cover the clutch with at least one finger the ENTIRE time. This will seem like a pain in the *****, but it will help you later on.

Might take ya an afternoon, might take you a weeks worth of practice before you get BP down...keep at it.

Re: learning with a hb

IMO I think the hand brake is harder to use then the foot brake..

To actually rock a idle, I think the footbrake is MUCH easier to use..

I ONLY use the hand brake for off peg tricks.. I actually tried a sit down yesterday using the handbrake, and halfway through the sitdown, I just went back to footbrake cause my handbrake isn't responsive enough..

Not to mention, trying to learn to cover the clutch AND the handbrake before you even know brake control? Forget it!

I can't work both my HB And clutch yet, but I can work my foot brake and clutch..

I can only imagine how hard it would be to learn coasters with a HB! You'd bust your *** soo hard probably..

stick to the foot brake! The handbrake isn't gonna make it easier, just slow ya down!

IMO don't get a 12 bar or handbrake, or dent your tank, or cut a hole in your seat until you can rock 10mph idle with no throttle hand for days.

i learned foot brake and got it down good, then got a hand brake, if you dont have brake control a hand brake is not going to give you brake control,

foot brake, i got a hb but hardly ever use it foot brake is easier and less work imo. just stick to stags til you got your bp on lock then move up a level. i was learnin and still am learning my hb by kickin it up then keepin my bp wit the foot at first then hb to keep it but like everyone else says its kinda hard to keep on the clutch and the brake and still holdin on... i still cant do it i just turn my idle higher so i wouldnt have to keep on the clutch so much........

People always ask how do you know when to get one Believe me you'll know when you cant do any other tricks safely without a HB then its time to get one. **** i has a HB on my **** for 3 weeks before i even has enough ***** to use it...

Rockstar??

I'm far from it... I learned REAL slow. It took me almost 3mths just to learn the brake and slow things down!!

I also had nobody to ride w/ when I 1st started... so everything was trial and error self taught.

For real though... everyone should learn the basics, in order... it'll just make you a better rider down the line.

The footbrake is alot safer... just cause you have more power w/ it... especially when your smokin the brake (like we all do when learning) and it starts to fade... I'd rather be in a sit down then in a seat stander goin 45 and gettin some brake fade behind balance point... then choppin the throttle out of fear reaction.

And Dak... I'm goin out riding today kid!!!! It's 55 degrees out and I have the day off!!! WOOOOO!!! 1st time in 2mths!! Wait till ya see my new blingness... BOTH BIKES this year
