denting tanks w/ hydraulic press
denting tanks w/ hydraulic press
I have to dent another f4i tank soon and I was thinking of trying to get the cap down good and even by using a hydraulic press. Has anyone tried this?
Re: denting tanks w/ hydraulic press
a guy i know did it with an f2 tank and it actually turned out real well, didnt chip the paint or anything. not exactly my style of dent but it worked. i like back dents myself but if u wanted a traditional full top dent then it will prob work out good if u know what youre doing.

put the tank in there and use something maybe a piece of wood or something else to put on top of where u want it sunk in and then just press it down......
its essentially the same as punding it down with a deadblow, just all at once.
Re: denting tanks w/ hydraulic press
I gotta find a blue/black f4i tank first. I have almost everything else, but no tank. Doh.
I have a press like the one sdfkillz posted up. I think that it'd be a smoother dent and less prone to chipping the paint. Also it seems less error prone. Sometimes I dent them perfectly, sometimes I get massive creases out of nowhere thanks to one bad hit with the hammer.
With this you'd just set up something to cushion the bottom of the tank, get a thin phone book and a plate slightly larger than the cap and just start raising the jack. Then spend a few minutes finishing off the lip with a ball peen.
Sounds like it might work pretty well to me
