Race tails?

So i usually put my foot in my back seat when i'm riding and i blew up my tail section when i crashed. So i'm wondering if there is anyone that has cut a hole in the back of the race tail and it works? I just don't think it can work, not enuff meat there to hold it solid. Am i right in my thinking? It's not that i can't get a stock tail, race tails are just a lil cheaper. Thanks for the help

PETe

Re: Race tails?

Good question, I have a race tail with me right now that I'm looking forwards to using. As far as foot in seat goes I'm not too sure about it. I ahd a solo cowl and I had a hole cut in that and it worked pretty good back in the day. The only problem you risk is because the tail curves up so sharply to replicate the passenger seat curves that it's like sticking your foot into a bucket... gotta be careful not to rip the entire tail off with your shoe.

Re: Race tails?

i use a race tail...i was reluctant to cut a hole after a couple months...but i finally did....i cut it so all my weight was on the subframe and no pressure was really on the fiberglass..when i stick my foot in the hole, the sole of my shoe is resting on the metal..theni put edge protectors all around the cut out..

Re: Race tails?

i just bought one on ebay and im looking to figure out how to support the fiberglass over the winter. the challenge will be preventing it from cracking with all the ss weight. i figure i'll stuff something in there for reinforcement.

Re: Race tails?

Yeah it's his. What happened to your minty fairings though bro? And did you brace your race tail? or do you just stand on it anyways and it can take the weight, during SS's and foot on seat.

yo man i'm wondering if you could use the passenger seat pan(the molded plastic) as some sort of support in there. or do you think it would take up to room. i know you know as much as i do. just tryin to throw out some ideas.

for real give me a heads up on that. i know it'll differ model to model but who's worried about chopping a stock passenger seat pan on a stunt bike.

Re: Race tails?

it's not that i like the idea of a race tail because i do still ride my bike on the streets and with a passanger once and a great while. It's that they are easier to come by then waiting for a stocker to come up on ebay and usually a little cheaper.

It's fiberglass, you can always add more glass on the inside, kevlar, etc. You can bend metal strips, place them in the tail section, then glass them in there permanently.

As for the seat, you could just cut it out for the stock seat to fit or put a racer pad on the top, or just say **** it and let the bitches sit right on the tail, they'll get used to it.

Re: Race tails?

ill tell u that im a fat azz...240 lbs...and i reinforced the edges inside the tail with body filler bondo **** (not around the hole, but along the sides inside where all ur weight would be on a seat stander),,...once its hard, its like rock...thats wya when the wieght of my 240 lbs fat azz stands on the edges rite behind the front seat the sides dont crack and spider web...p.s. i used sharskinz...i was told by a few local racers and my shop that its the best and most durable...just some food for thought
