its not easy to dent a tank well without chipping paint, some tanks are easier to do than others. that year gix isnt one of the easier ones in my experience. start at the back of the cap and work your way out, spreading the dent. ive used my fist to start it and then a deadblow rubber malet. if u want it perfect u can strip it bondo and paint it.

Re: denting tank

the rounded 2x4 and rubber sounds like it would work well, but on the k4 gixxer the filler cap is very close to the bottom of the tank at the front of the cap so should i just be doing the rear half of the tank?

rear dent aka o town style dent i think looks and works the best. ive heard of ppl cutting the splash gaurds to achieve the full flat dent.
