There's a Melbourne in Florida? Well I'll be..
As for how Melbourne Australia is;
1kph over the limit = $112AUD fine.
25kph (15.5mph) over the limit = automatic 1 month licence suspension + fine.
35kph (21.75mph) over = 6 month suspension + fine. Vehicle confiscated. Court appearance usually ending in more fines.
45kph (28mph) over = 12 month suspension + fine. Vehicle confiscated. Court appearance.
Any loss of traction (wheelie/endo/emergency brake/you name it) = Vehicle confiscated. Court appearance normally ending up with $1000+AUD in fines and 6 month licence suspension.
1st confiscation = 48 hours with a $500AUD retrieval fee.
2nd confiscation = 1 month with a $1000AUD retrieval fee.
3rd confiscation = Vehicle is auctioned.
There's also no such thing as a "spot" here. If you can get your bike there, it means it's publicly accessible and therefore road rules apply.
There's also no such thing as leniency. You slam the brakes on to avoid a roo and your rear tyre lifts 10cm, say goodbye to your bike if the cops see it.
There's also no such thing as giving a cop attitude here. If you do, you end up with a baton up your **** getting taken for a ride in the back of a divvy van over dirt roads. Then starts the 5AM police raids on your house for "suspicion of stolen property".
There are speed cameras on nearly every intersection in metro areas, and quite a few in suburban areas. On the main freeways, every overpass has a camera. They even have point to point ones now, so even if you slow down for the camera, if you make it to the next camera too quickly, you get done.
It's the epitome of a nanny state.
So who wants to sponsor my move to the US?
