Oil light comes on in wheelie

When ever i take my bike past bp my oil light comes on... Should i overfill it? I have it filled up to the top line already.. I know i should really get an oil pickup but they seem like a pain to install

its not hard to install them, takes maybe an hour. remove fairings if you have any, loosen radiator to get at the header bolts if u cant get in there pull headers off, drop your oil pan 2 bolts to take out the pick up and put new pick up in, smear some rvt sealant on your oil pan bolt it back bla bla blah ur done bike wont blow up now....maybe.

Re: Oil light comes on in wheelie

ya, the oil pickup on a gixxer is easy as pie to change.

also, over-filling won't hurt the bike, as long as you don't fill it to the point that there is no air in the oil pan. 1 quart over will work fine, many people from years to past have run 1 quart over in gixxers without problems, myself included.

the only bad thing is during wheelies, gixxers will still eventually starve out even with a quart over. they honestly need the oil pickup. they also should have a baffle, but nobody makes it, so oil pickup will work.

if the oil light comes on, that means there is no pressure in the head and engine damage IS occuring....not "will" occur, it is actually happening as you see the light come on.

I guess i will be ordering an oil pickup.. Im going to overfill it until it comes though.... The light comes on when i take it almost to 12 o'clock... I will try avoiding that until i get the pickup...most of the time when the light comes on my bikes going less then 3mph... Running on idle... Hopefully i didnt do any bad damage to it

2000 rpms is 2000 rpms......even if you're only up for 15 seconds, that motor will revolve 500 times without oil....never a good thing.

and there are cases of bikes locking up with the pickup. my old gixxer i just sold, teh guy blew it up in a month with the pickup. i would still add a little more flava to the oil pan just in case, it doesn't hurt to overfill as long as you still have room for air in the oil pan. it becomes a problem when you fill so much that there is no free air in the oil pan.
