Re: best way to cut fairings for FI cage?
get a plastic/fiberglass whole bit.... it helps to if you use a little drill bit, so when you use the hole bit, the pilot doesnt skip or slide around.
Re: best way to cut fairings for FI cage?
Step 1: Tip bike over on right side to be able to work on the left side
Step 2: Start drilling holes in left fairing until you have about 5 of them in wrong place
Step 3: Get frustrated with the left side that you decide maybe you can fix the right
Step 4: once picking up the bike you realize you scratched up right fairing
Step 5: take off fairings and streetfighter the bike

Re: best way to cut fairings for FI cage?
stick the bolt for the cage, in the engine and thread it in a little..
then put the plastic back on, and press on it, so it leaves a mark on the back of hte plastic
now just drill where the mark is... voila

Use play-doh or some kind of clay on the back of the fairing and it will leave an impression of where the bolt would hit so that you can find the center of the bolt better.
Re: best way to cut fairings for FI cage?
tolieees idea is pretty good, but make sure the fairing is in the right position, as when it sticks out the lenght of engine bolt it may move up/down from where the hole really wants to be if that makes sense..
The way I do it is to put finger of one hand where the engine mount bolt is (inline with it on inside of fairing) then you can easily judge where your finger is with your other hand (unless its just me that can do this
) then drill a small pilot hole and see how well it lines up.. you can then tell if you need to go up/down (i fitted one monday and got 1 of them lined up first time, the other took 2 pilots - so it cant be too hard!) then use a hole saw just a bit bigger than the FI engine mount..
easy as pie.. I think the one i fitted came out really well too :YEAH
