Re: best cam chain tensioner

Try going over to
www.cbrworld.net or www.cbrforum.com search cause this is a huge topic there. I really don't think it will matter as long as it's a manual one.

Re: best cam chain tensioner

Does anybody know if any parts suppliers (like parts unlimited, Tucker, LP) carry th A.P.E.? If they do I can order one through work instead of using a damn credit card.

www.tuckerrocky.com
www.parts-unlimited.com
www.lockhartphilipsusa.com

i think all 3 of those carry APE. i run APE on mine. They are a pain in the *** to install and when the engine is in high rev manual tensioners actually put too much pressure on the chain, but that's the tradeoff.

the stock f4i tensioner actually just rattles at the tip. you can fix this by taking it out and using a small punch to "peen" out the pin that holds the tip on. you'll see how it rattles back and forth once you get it out. most of the time that is the reason it makes noise, but on occasion i'll actually see one that doesn't work.

Re: best cam chain tensioner

i thought i already told you in the other thread? it's the black plug with 2 wires going into it by the battery. nothing is plugged into it. jump a wire between those 2 wires and turn the ignition on, should give you the code.

i don't have a pic, but there is an endcap on the cct, and it's held in place by a roll pin. if you use a tiny punch and peen that roll pin so it fits super tight the endcap won't rattle.

Re: best cam chain tensioner

APE is the only one I've heard of. http://www.cbrzone.com/sprockets.html I've been meaning to get one myself. There was someone selling them on ebay for like $48.95 shipped at one point.

I bought the APE tensioner and my bike sounds/runs/ rides so clean now. I bought the APE, but any manual tensioner will stop the rattling, that is deff the chain making that noise.
