Freestyle Cages...

Well I had my first crash yesterday with a freestyle cage on my bike. Gotta say it did it's job. I was practicing non stop back to back runs and was over using my rear brake. I think I cooked the pads or boiled the fluid or something. I clutched it up to bp and was holding an idle wheelie and was going for the brake and it wasn't working! My lever was going down but the bike wasn't. I held it for a little bit but felt the bike dip back so I bailed from it. The bike pretty much 12'd for a quick scrape and did a lil half spin and flew a lane to the left landing right on the slider of the cage. Well the cage is pretty much in perfect condition though the bolt got bent to ****. Gonna have to cut the bolt in half to get it out of the slider. The only damage was the derlin cap, scratch on the front fairing, and my throttle grip got scratched.

So while I'm not sure how other cages would've held up I'm satisfied with how the FI cage protected my bike.

Oh I'll post a vid of the crash once my friend sends me it haha...they said it's funny cause when I jumped off the bike I did a "spider man" landing and just ran over to the bike.

Re: Freestyle Cages...

glad to hear it!

I JUST FINALLY replaced my 2 year old FI cage with a new one... and i didnt have too but i had a new one sitting in my house and since i was rebuilding the bike from the Vegas crash, i thought it was a good time to throw it on...

My cage had COUNTLESS crashes on it and it was still PERFECTLY straight...

New cage on the bike for two night has already been down on the left side about 10 times and is perfect!

Re: Freestyle Cages...

Lets see it hold from a circle crash. Come down at a funny angle with the ground forces pushing basically along the bike and the motor mount part of the cage might bend. Thats where that cage, from my experience, doesnt work to well. But for average falls its a good cage. Also if you fading your brakes just get a steel braided line and it wont fade. I had the same bike while learing slow stuff and with the steel braided line I would just drag the **** outta the brake, rotor glowing RED hot and never faded. Or just learn to tap the brake instead of dragging it. Good **** though.

Re: Freestyle Cages...

Just put one on my little gix. (06's were back ordered forever)

Whole job took about 15 min. -vs- alot of cussing, and cage bending ,and face making to get my "other" brand of cage to fit on the 900.

The thing fit right on, and looks solid as hell. Time to go ride!

Got it from Revtek I get everything from them now cause their prices are pretty good. Sometimes it's cheaper then online ordering an what not.

Re: Freestyle Cages...

Too bad highsiding a circle with an FI cage will cause more damage than it prevents, cuz it pivots on the slider and literally destroys the clip ons and subframe.

Other than that I'd still use one if there wasn't a better (and less expensive) option for the F4i like Sick Innovations. I didn't crash mine that much, but I had it on a friends bike and he probably tripled the amount I crashed on it, and some of mine were pretty damn rough, the bike tumble end over end once. It was bent and scratched but still protected the bike and wasn't toooo hard to get back on.

FI is still a quality product and I'd trust it to protect most of my bike any day.

Re: Freestyle Cages...

i hated my f.i. cage. it rolled onto the handlebars every single time and would get caught on the lip of my ramp when loading the bike almost making me drop my **** from 4 feet in the air.

Re: Freestyle Cages...

I forgot to mention flush your brake fluid immediately, if it has already boiled it is junk and needs replaced. If your rotor got too hot and glazed your pads scuff the rotor and replace the pads as well.

Exactly, in one crash it pivoted and rolled completely over the handlebars and my flat bar caught the ground and destroyed my subframe.

In another crash, I highsided a seat stander circle and it rolled so hard my clip on snapped in half along with my brake master throttle assembly throttle tube etc.
